This evening, department members spent time honing their pumping and hose line operations skills while also helping prepare Sandy Pier for this weekend’s swimming races.
Whether it’s emergency response training or supporting community events, our members are always ready to serve. Great work by everyone involved!

Happy anniversary to the Broad Channel Vollies!

Happy 121st Anniversary to our own Broad Channel Vol Fire Dept of Queens, who were organized on this date in 1905.

Yesterday, Sunday, August 30, at approximately 4:55 p.m., the Edgewater Park Volunteer Fire Department responded to multiple reports of a structure fire in Edgewater Park.

Before firefighters arrived, neighboring residents took swift action and were able to extinguish the fire. Upon arrival, EPVFD crews and FDNY personnel checked the structure for any hidden fire extension using thermal imaging cameras and operated one attack line to cool and extinguish remaining hot spots.

Thankfully, no injuries were reported. All units cleared the scene and returned to service by approximately 6:00 p.m.

We would like to thank our neighboring residents for their quick actions!

For several years, our community has been impacted by loud music during the late-night hours originating from the Long Island Sound.

We urge anyone with information that may help identify those responsible to please contact the number listed above. Your assistance is greatly appreciated and can help us maintain the peace and quality of life in our community.

Last evening at 8:36 PM, the Edgewater Park Volunteer Fire Department was dispatched to a reported residential structure fire.

Upon arrival, firefighters observed smoke coming from the eaves of the roof and found the front door open. A command was immediately given to close the door.

While it may seem like leaving a door open helps smoke escape, it actually provides the fire with fresh oxygen, allowing it to grow and spread more rapidly. Closing doors and windows, when conditions allow and it is safe to do so, can help slow the fire's growth until firefighters arrive.

Remember: where there is smoke, there is fire.

Our crews quickly deployed one attack line, located the fire, and had water on it within minutes of being dispatched.

Thanks to the resident's quick recognition of the hazard and immediate call, combined with the rapid response of the Edgewater Park Volunteer Fire Department, the fire was successfully contained to the attic. No additional structures were threatened, and the incident was brought under control quickly.

This incident is a great reminder that early detection, and closing doors when it is safe to do so can make a significant difference in limiting fire damage and protecting lives.

Thank you to all of the Edgewater Park firefighters and FDNY who responded and worked together to bring this incident to a safe conclusion.
