RSS - Riverdale Senior Services In 1974, RSS Founder Julia Blumenthal and her colleagues set out to improve the lives of seniors in the Riverdale community.

RSS (Riverdale Senior Services) is a multi-purpose non-profit agency whose mission is to promote the physical, intellectual, social, and emotional well-being of older adults in the Northwest Bronx. Riverdale Senior Center opened with the mission of providing a place where people could meet friends, share a meal and learn from one another. As we have grown, we’ve responded to the changing needs and

interests of the vital, diverse senior population of the Northwest Bronx. In addition to a daily delicious lunch, RSS now offers a full range of exercise, cultural, health management and social programs, as well as a wide array of social and behavioral health services. We continue to evolve to meet our members’ needs, and hope you will join us, at no cost, to sample all we have to offer!

Our social worker, Gidalthy Estevez, organized a Photovoice workshop series that encouraged members to express themselves through creativity and photography. Participants explored the connection between color and emotion while learning to use professional cameras with guidance from Technology teacher Caroline Voigt. To put their new skills into practice, members enjoyed a field trip to Wave Hill!

🌺🍽️ Celebrating AANHPI Heritage Month at Riverdale Senior Services! 🍽️🌺

Today from 4:30 PM – 6:00 PM, our Riverdale Senior Services community came together for a special dinner celebrating Asian American, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander (AANHPI) Heritage Month.

Members enjoyed a delicious meal featuring teriyaki chicken, vegetable fried rice, Chinese broccoli, vegetable dumplings, and mochi ice cream, while sharing conversation, laughter, and fellowship with friends old and new.

Events like these give us an opportunity not only to enjoy great food, but also to honor the rich cultures, traditions, and contributions of AANHPI communities. It was wonderful to see our dining room filled with smiling faces, meaningful connections, and a spirit of community.

A special thank you to our staff, volunteers, and everyone who helped make this celebration possible. Your dedication helps create experiences that bring people together and enrich the lives of older adults throughout our community.

We were absolutely thrilled to host a special reception showcasing the incredible artwork of our talented RSS students!

Under the expert guidance of renowned Bronx artist and RSS instructor, Daniel Hauben, these students have spent much time honing their craft and expressing their unique visions. The exhibit was a beautiful testament to their hard work, growth, and vibrant creativity.

A huge thank you to Daniel for inspiring our community's artists, to the students for sharing their amazing talents with us, and to everyone who came out to celebrate their success! 🌟

There was a terrific turnout today for a cooking demonstration all about crafting DIY salad dressings!

Everyone got a major reality check on commercial dressings, which are so often packed with hidden sugars, extra sodium, and unnecessary preservatives and instead, learned how simple, healthy, and cost-effective it is to whip up fresh versions ourselves.

The best part? The results were absolutely delicious! 😋

A huge thank you to everyone who joined us in the Event Room today to learn how to elevate our nutrition and our salads!
