We are happy to announce the addition of our third Auxiliary Facility in our Flotilla! "ROOTS" is a 21ft Key Largo Center Console owned by Auxiliarist Wayne Tang which will be used to patrol the waters around City Island and the Long Island Sound area along side Coast Guard Station Kings Point.

The addition marks another important milestone for our Flotilla and strengthens our ability to support the Coast Guard’s missions of boating safety, maritime security, public education, and operational readiness.

NEW YORK — Coast Guard Auxiliary members supporting the USCGC Jeffrey Palazzo (WPC-1163) render a salute toward the World Trade Center at 9:59 a.m. Sept. 11, 2026, the time the South Tower fell 25 years ago. Auxiliary members are supporting the cutter while it is in port, offering tours to the public. The cutter is named for Coast Guard Reservist and FDNY Fire Fighter Jeffrey Palazzo, who was among the 343 New York Fire Department personnel who made the ultimate sacrifice trying to save others. A piece of steel recovered from Ground Zero is visible on the pier beside the cutter.

Please join us in welcoming back and congratulating our Vice Flotilla Commander, Alec Travieso, who has proudly earned a new title: Seaman Travieso, U.S. Coast Guard Reserve!

Alec recently completed U.S. Coast Guard Recruit Training at Training Center Cape May, New Jersey, and will now continue his service with the Coast Guard Reserve, working in Facility Inspections out of U.S. Coast Guard Sector New York.

From serving our community in the Coast Guard Auxiliary to answering the call to serve in the Coast Guard Reserve, Alec continues to demonstrate an outstanding commitment to the Coast Guard and the maritime community.

Another great day on the water with happy boaters! Our Vessel Exam team was out engaging with the boating public and offering free Courtesy Vessel Safety Exams to help ensure recreational boaters have the required safety equipment on board and are prepared for a safe day on the water.

These voluntary exams are an excellent opportunity to identify potential safety issues before heading out, promote safe boating practices, and help keep our waterways safe for everyone.
