We’re expecting several more rounds of rain over the next couple of days across Galveston County, Texas and our region. Our Emergency Management Office is closely monitoring conditions and staying in contact with weather officials and local partners.

The primary concern will be street flooding during periods of heavy rainfall. If you encounter a flooded roadway, don’t take the risk. Turn Around, Don’t Drown.

Now is the time to stay informed. Follow a trusted news source, monitor forecast updates from US National Weather Service Houston-Galveston Texas, and plan ahead as conditions change.

🛡️ Strengthening Community Safety

Galveston County Health District staff had the opportunity to attend the U.S. Secret Service's "Multidisciplinary Resources and Partners in Preventing Targeted Violence" training hosted by the Lone Star College Police Department.

This valuable training brought together professionals from multiple disciplines to learn about identifying, preventing, and responding to targeted violence through collaboration, threat assessment, and community partnerships.

At GCHD, we are committed to ongoing education and preparedness to help build safer, healthier, and more resilient communities. Thank you to the U.S. Secret Service and our regional partners for providing this important opportunity.

We’ve received many calls regarding Household Hazardous Waste disposal. These items should always be disposed of properly to help protect our environment and public health.

June is Alzheimer's & Brain Awareness Month

Alzheimer’s disease impacts millions of individuals and families each year. This month, we encourage everyone to learn the warning signs, support loved ones affected by dementia, and take steps to maintain a healthy brain through regular exercise, quality sleep, social connections, and routine healthcare visits.

If you have concerns about memory or cognitive health, talk with your healthcare provider. To schedule an appointment with Coastal Health & Wellness, call (409) 938-2234 or visit coastalhw.org.

Together, we can raise awareness, support caregivers, and promote brain health at every age.

June 5 marks HIV Long-Term Survivors Awareness Day, a day to honor the strength, resilience, and journeys of people who have been living with HIV for many years. ❤️

This date recognizes the beginning of the HIV epidemic, first documented by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) in 1981. Today, we raise awareness about the ongoing needs, challenges, and experiences of long-term survivors while celebrating the progress made in HIV care, treatment, and advocacy.

At the Galveston County Health District, we stand with individuals and communities affected by HIV by promoting education, reducing stigma, and supporting access to compassionate care and resources. https://www.gchd.org/about-us/community-health-services/hiv-std-services

Let’s continue to listen, learn, and support those whose stories have shaped the fight against HIV.
