CASA of Galveston County

CASA of Galveston County Court Appointed Special Advocates® (CASA) of Galveston County advocates for children and youth experiencing the foster care system due to abuse and neglect.

Court Appointed Special Advocates of Galveston County recruit, train, and supervise community volunteers that become Guardian Ad Litems for children who have experienced abuse or neglect and help them find their voice in the court system. These volunteers are appointed by family court judges to fulfill their advocacy. To become a CASA you must be 21+, undergo a complete background check, attend 32+ hours of training, and commit to 1 year for consistent and continued service. A CASA is a consistent presence in a child's life while working collaboratively with others involved in the case. They conduct a comprehensive family assessment and make fact based recommendations to the court via a court report. A CASA stands up for the best interest of these children in court, in the community, and in school.

Last week, 4 new CASA volunteers were officially sworn in by the Honorable Judge Rawlinson, and the most exciting part is that they have now ALL accepted their cases and begun advocating for the children they are serving! That means 4 more children/sibling groups now have a CASA volunteer in their corner! 💙

We are in need of MORE volunteers! We have upcoming training classes as well as information sessions where we can answer all your questions one-on-one. Visit casagalveston.org/volunteer for a list of upcoming training classes and info sessions!
