The Citizens’ Police Academy is a revolutionary concept in law enforcement that provides citizens with a better understanding of the role of law enforcement. The Citizens’ Police Academy will offer citizens insight into how members of The Texarkana Police Department perform their duties and promote better police/community relations. Who Teaches the Academy and what Subjects are included? The instructors are actual police officers from the department who teach in their own area of expertise. Each has years of training and experience. The sessions encompass many demonstrations including K-9 units, central dispatch, traffic enforcement, use of force, investigations and much more. Students are encouraged to participate in several exercises designed to place them in the shoes of police officers. These exercises include mock investigations, traffic stops, and more. To be considered for the Citizens' Police Academy, an applicant must be a resident of or work in the City of Texarkana or Miller County, pass a criminal history check, possess a valid driver’s license, be at least 18 years of age and have no prior felony convictions.
