JOB TITLE: Community Supervision Officer I

LOCATION: Bowie County, Texas

JOB SUMMARY: Supervise individuals placed on community supervision by the Courts. Specific duties will be determined by the type of caseload assigned and may include, but not be limited to: monitoring the probationer's compliance with the orders of the Court through routine office and field contacts to ensure community safety, provide offenders referrals for services to address criminogenic needs, maintain accurate case files through chronological entries/documentation, monitoring drug test, conducting assessments and evaluations, create individualized case plans, reporting violations of probation to the courts and/or proper authorities in a timely manner, court testimony and working closely with other law enforcement agencies and the Courts.

QUALIFICATIONS: Applicants must possess a minimum of a bachelor's degree conferred by an institution of higher education accredited by an accrediting organization recognized by the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board. The degree must be in criminal justice, psychology, sociology, or a related field, OR the applicant must have completed at least one year of graduate study in one of these areas. Furthermore, applicants cannot be employed or volunteer as a peace officer, nor can an applicant currently be on probation, parole, or serving a sentence for any criminal offense.

REQUIREMENTS: Must be able to communicate effectively both orally and in writing. Must be proficient in computer skills that include MS Word, Excel and must be able to navigate database software. Possess valid driver's license and be insurable. Must pass a background check and drug screen. Must be able to perform work-related travel, successfully complete the community supervision officer certification program, and pass the mandatory state certification exam. Must follow departmental polices and maintain a professional appearance.

The Bowie County Recovery Center is currently accepting applications for the following position:

JOB TITLE: Substance Abuse Treatment Facility (SATF) Resident Monitor

JOB SUMMARY: Requires constant monitoring, supervision, and documentation of SATF residents’ activities to ensure compliance with the facility’s procedures/rules and compliance with conditions of supervision. Resident Monitors must have constructive interaction with SATF residents to be responsive to resident needs. Resident Monitors will employ a spirit of common sense and courtesy to develop and maintain a professional, positive working relationship with SATF residents and staff.
Working Conditions/Physical Demands: The Resident Monitor works 12-hour shifts as a team to accomplish job-related tasks. Flexible hours and shift work are required. The schedule may include evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays. Must be able to sit or stand for extended periods of time. Must be able to bend, stoop, push, pull, lift, and move about the facility freely and unassisted. May be required to lift fifty (50) pounds on occasion. Must be able to travel in/outside the city environment with little notice to attend training and/or participate in program development seminars. JOB TITLE: Substance Abuse Counselor

LOCATION: Bowie County, Texas

JOB SUMMARY: The substance abuse counselor is responsible for providing education and counseling services as outlined the Bowie County CSCD Substance Abuse Treatment (SATP) Program Policies and Procedures in accordance with the CJAD Substance Abuse Treatment Standards.

QUALIFICATIONS: Applicants must possess one of the following:
Licensed Chemical Dependency Counselor (LCDC), Counselor in Training as defined by the Texas Department of State Health Services (DSHS) and pass LCDC testing upon completion of required Intern hours, or Licensed Professional Counselor Intern as defined by the Texas DSHS. A minimum of two years of counseling experience in the treatment of chemically dependent persons or a bachelor’s degree in the field of social work, counseling, psychology, or a related field of instruction conferred by a college or university accredited by an accrediting organization recognized by the Coordinating Board, Texas, and College University System.

RESPONSIBILITIES: Performs individual and group counseling for defendants on assigned caseload or as directed by the court within the time frames outlined in the SATP Policies and Procedures. Conduct addiction education groups for defendants. Facilitates substance abuse/criminal conduct groups using prescribed cognitive behavioral curriculum. Develops for each defendant on their caseload an individualized treatment plan that is based on an assessment that addresses criminogenic needs. Implements relapse strategies for defendants. Identifies client needs that cannot be
addressed by facility, makes appropriate referrals to outside services, and works with agencies on behalf of clients. Develops written and negotiated aftercare plans with defendants prior to their discharge from SATP. Conducts substance abuse screening assessments for community supervision officers and court system as needed. Conducts intake screening functions for potential program according to written criteria and standardized tests as needed. Facilitates responsivity groups such as anger management, relapse prevention and mind over mood utilizing cognitive curriculum. Writes assessment reports for the courts including counselor recommendations regarding the need for treatment. Participates in regularly scheduled staff meetings and weekly case staffing meetings. Documents in computer, intervention activities with defendants, in accordance with policy and procedure. Provides court testimony in a factual and objective manner as directed by the courts. Conducts jail/field visits as required. Performs other duties as assigned by the Treatment Programs Supervisor.
