The City of Temple is offering Special Needs Swim Lessons for Youth (Age 6-13) and Adults (Age 13 & up) with intellectual disabilities on June 1 - 11 and July 13 - 23 at Clark Pool.

The class times will be from 6 p.m. to 6:45 p.m. for youth, and
7 p.m. - 7:45 p.m. for adults. The cost for the classes is $70. The class size is a maximum of 6 students.

You can register for the classes on-line at the City of Temple Parks and Recreation website under the Aquatics section, or you can register by contacting Sammons Park Indoor Pool at 254-298-5920.

Keith Maxwell, American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor (WSI), will be teaching the class and has over 10 years of teaching special needs swim lessons and has taught swim lessons as a WSI for over 45 years. Aida Sapp, WSI, will be teaching with Keith during the first session. She has over 10 years of teaching special needs swim lessons and has taught swim lessons as a WSI for over 45 years. The WSI for the second session has taught Special Needs classes with Keith in the past.

**There will be lifeguards in the pool to assist in overseeing the safety of the students. Students must be able to remain in the swim lesson area within the pool since there are other classes being taught in the pool at the same time.

We are excited to announce that the Marek Smith Center for Teacher Preparation at UMHB will host a new summer camp experience for children with disabilities, Robotic Pet Vet, in partnership with the National Inventors Hall of Fame, June 15–19, 2026, from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. daily.

During this hands-on STEM camp, students will step into the role of “Robotic Pet Vets” as they explore the robot dog anatomy, perform pretend “surgery” on a robotic dog, and discover how motors, gears, and circuits work while designing, inventing, and problem-solving. Campers will even design and build a custom dog park and take home their own robotic and build a custom dog park and take home their own robot. Registration is open for campers entering 1st–3rd grade (or functioning on a 1st–3rd grade reading level). The cost of the camp is $150 per student, and space is limited, so we encourage families to register as soon as possible

We are excited to partner once again with TISD for our annual Crossover Basketball Camp. This is an opportunity for Kindergarten-8th graders to learn basketball skills, play games, and learn about Jesus! It will be April 29th & 30th at 5:00pm and located at Meredith Dunbar Gym. Dinner will be provided. Sign ups are live now at tbchub.org, TBC app, or scan the QR code.
