A New Dawn- Remembrance of Aftermath of Capitol Event on Yesterday

The violent protests that led to the storming of the U.S. Capitol represent a sad and appalling stain on our nation’s history and a travesty of our democratic ideals.

We stand for a free, just, and civil society that represents the voices of all people. That, in fact, is the hallmark of our democracy.

All people have the right to be heard and in our democracy, one way that is exercised is through our right to vote. The people have spoken through their votes, the states have ratified those votes and the courts have upheld those decisions.

It is now time for the President and Congress to ensure their commitment to a peaceful transfer of power occurs.

This is essential to upholding our democracy and everything we stand for as Americans– equity, a free and non-violent exchange of ideas, and the right and ability for all people and communities to thrive.

As we move forward to the new dawn, a new day, and new leadership; be reminded that we are resilient and a brighter moment is coming.

Patriot Day
Remembering Sept 11, 2001
By Patrecia Williams, United States Retired

Sept. 11, 2001, changed more than the skyline of New York City - the attacks changed a generation of Americans, our Armed Forces and Government Civilians and Contractors, and our world. A beautiful September morning was marred by stark disbelief, agonizing sorrow, and profound suffering.

We now observe Patriot Day annually on September 11th as a National Day of Service and Remembrance for the thousands of lives lost in the 9/11 attacks. On this National Day of Service and Remembrance and solemn anniversary, we pause in remembrance, in reflection, and once again in unity.

On a day that began like so many others, a clear blue sky was pierced by billowing black smoke as a wave of grief crashed over us. Many Americans vividly recall the precise moment when terrorists killed our fellow Americans at the World Trade Center in New York City; at the Pentagon in Arlington, Virginia; and on a quiet field in Shanksville, Pennsylvania fellow Americans from the wreckage of the attacks, the passengers and crew of United Flight 93.
Courageous firefighters rushed into an inferno, brave rescue workers charged upstairs, and coworkers carried others to safety. People drove across the country to volunteer, donors lined up to give blood, and organizations collected food and clothing. And in our Nation's hour of need, millions of young Americans raised in a time of peace volunteered to don the uniforms of our country's military and defend our values around the world.

America will never forget the September tragedy that shook our Nation's core 19 years ago. Against the backdrop of cowardly acts of terror, America once again demonstrated to the world the unmatched strength of our resolve and the indomitable power of our character. America’s strength, courage, and compassion, however, never wavered. But in one of our darkest moments, we summoned strength and courage, and out of horrible devastation emerged the best of our humanity.

As we come together once more to mourn their loss, we also recall how the worst terrorist attack in our history brought out the true character of the American people. Americans today even in the COVID 19 epidemic and racial injustices occurring in distant cities and local towns united in common purpose, demonstrating the spirit of our Nation.

Today and every day, we remember all those we lost on that day and the Americans who made the ultimate sacrifice in the wars that followed, we must strive to carry forward their legacy.

We will always be grateful for the heroic men and women of our Armed Forces who fought in defense of our country in the aftermath of the largest terrorist attack on American soil, and we will never forget those who made the ultimate sacrifice to defend our liberty and freedom. We remember the patriots who endure in the hearts of our Nation and their families who have known the awful depths of loss.

In their spirit, let us resolve to move forward together and rededicate ourselves to the ideals that define our nation as we work to strengthen our communities and better our world.

Internet Essentials - 60-day Free and Open Wi-Fi (until December 31, 2020)

As cities and towns across the country begin to open up, Comcast is continuing its efforts to help people connect to the Internet during the COVID-19 crisis. This week we made two major extension announcements:

1. An extension to our 60-day Free Internet Essentials to New Customers: Originally set to expire on June 30th, we announced that we have extended an offer for 60 days of free home Internet access for new eligible Internet Essentials customers, to help provide additional support to students and families in need through the end of the year - December 31, 2020.
2. Xfinity Wi-Fi Free For Everyone: We will extend free access to our 1.5 million public Xfinity Wi-Fi hotspots to anyone who needs them, including non-customers, through the end of 2020. For a map of Xfinity Wi-Fi hotspots, visit www.xfinity.com/wifi. Once at a hotspot, consumers should select the "xfinitywifi" network name in the list of available hotspots, and then launch a browser.
3. Increasing the Speed of Internet Essentials: Remember, for all new and existing Internet Essentials customers, the speed of the program's Internet service was increased to 25 Mbps downstream and 3 Mbps upstream. That increase went into effect for no additional fee and it will become the new base speed for the program going forward.
4. Have past due Comcast debt: Families may still qualify. Comcast will also continue to waive the requirement that those customers not have a past due balance with Comcast to qualify for the free offer.

We want to continue to make it as fast and simple as possible to access this service:

* To receive the increased Internet speeds, existing Internet Essentials customers did not need to do anything. The new speeds will be rolled out nationally in early March.
* We'll send all new customers a free self-install kit that includes a cable modem with a Wi-Fi router. There will be no term contract or credit check and no shipping fee. Essentially, this is a risk-free opportunity.
* To sign up, applicants can simply visit www.internetessentials.com. The accessible website also includes the option to video chat with customer service agents in American Sign Language. There are also two dedicated phone numbers 1-855-846-8376 for English and 1-855-765-6995 for Spanish

As the current school year comes to an end, school districts across the country are already announcing plans for when school returns in the fall. To help provide additional support to students and families, Comcast today announced it will continue to provide 60 days of free Internet service to new,....
