After-school activities and athletic practices on Monday, March 2 must conclude by 6pm, due to inclement weather. Transportation will not be provided for after-school activities and evening programs. Boys and girls basketball games will be postponed until Tuesday, March 3.

Schools & Offices Closed Friday, Jan. 30 & Updates for Weekend and Monday​​​​​​​

Prince George’s County Public Schools (PGCPS) schools and offices will be closed on Friday, January 30, due to inclement weather. A Code Yellow remains in effect — only emergency personnel must report to work.
Weekend Update (Saturday–Sunday)
All facility use is cancelled Saturday and Sunday to allow crews time to continue clearing walkways, parking lots, and bus loops in preparation for reopening.

Looking Ahead to Monday, February 2
Our goal is to open schools and offices on Monday, February 2. We anticipate a two-hour delayed opening (Code Orange).
We will reevaluate conditions and notify the community on Sunday, February 1, by 5:00 p.m. regarding operational status for Monday.

Families are encouraged to use their best judgment if travel conditions are unsafe. We will provide flexibility regarding absences. No student should be penalized because of weather-related challenges in getting to school safely.

If a Two-Hour Delay (Code Orange) Is Confirmed for Monday, Feb.2
Under Code Orange:

Schools and offices will open with a two-hour delay.
Emergency personnel must report to work on time and are not eligible for liberal leave.
There will be no work-study transportation (students should not report).
Vendor-managed care programs will open at 9:00 a.m.
There will be no half-day Early Childhood Center (ECC), half-day Special Education, or half-day PreK programs.
Programs requiring transportation prior to 12:00 noon will not have transportation, including:
Howard B. Owens Science Center
JA Finance Park
William S. Schmidt Center (Camp Schmidt)
All field trips are cancelled.
Food Services will offer breakfast.
Athletics will resume a normal schedule.

Meal distribution will open at the following six locations on Thursday from 11am - 1pm. The meals will cover both Thursday and Friday for students - two grab and go breakfasts and lunches per student.

Schools & Offices Closed Monday, January 26: Code Yellow

Prince George’s County Public Schools (PGCPS) schools and offices will be closed Monday, January 26, due to inclement weather.

Code Yellow: Only emergency personnel must report to work. Educators will have a virtual self-directed professional day to complete end-of-quarter grade reporting, planning, and other professional duties.
All facility use is cancelled.

The decision to close schools is always made with safety as our top priority. PGCPS is committed to timely communication, and will provide daily updates to staff and families by 5 p.m. throughout the weather event.

The school district is ready to implement emergency meal services if schools are closed for an extended time. Please stay tuned to email, text alerts, the PGCPS website (pgcps.org), and our social media channels for the latest information.
