Strong communities are built by working people. This Labor Day, we honor the union workers who stood together for fair wages, safe workplaces, dignity, and opportunity for all.

Here in Tempe, I am especially grateful for the nearly 2,000 City of Tempe employees who serve our community every day. Thank you for the work you do, the pride you take in our city, and the many ways you make Tempe a better place to call home.

I appreciate community members Lisa Zyriek and Janet Hamlin for reaching out to me over a year ago with an idea for a dementia-friendly park. I knew it was something our community needed. As a leader in Dementia and Age-Friendly services and support, Tempe will now become the first in the country to offer a recreational space for those living with dementia and caregivers.

Thank you John Kane of Architekton for your generosity in donating the design costs and for the Tempe Diablos Charities to make the park one of your projects.

The City of Tempe has turned off its Flock automated license plate reader (ALPR) system and will end its contract with the company. The cameras are no longer collecting license plate data and will be removed by Flock. The City will not seek another company to replace the system.

The Hive, located inside EnVision Center, is where community meets technology with free internet access, computers, one-on-one tech support and onsite resources such as 3D printers, a podcasting station and robotics tools.
