Tempe Fire Medical Rescue Department The official page of City of Tempe Fire Medical Rescue The Tempe Fire Medical Rescue Department has an ISO rating of 1.

The Tempe Fire Medical Rescue Department is an “all hazards” department that responds to all types of incidents including fires, automobile accidents, medical emergencies, hazardous materials response, technical rescues and much more. Additionally, we pride ourselves in being involved in promoting emergency preparedness, fire prevention and a variety of life safety programs. The Tempe Fire Medical Rescue Department was the first Internationally Accredited Department in the nation, and we are fully accredited through the Commission on Fire Accreditation International. Tempe Fire Medical Rescue is rated among the top 1% in the country to achieve this high rating and be fully accredited and has maintained a rating of 2 or higher since 1982, which speaks to the Department’s fire suppression capabilities. Tempe participates in an automatic aid system with 27 other fire departments in the Phoenix area. Automatic aid means the closest unit is dispatched using GPS to an emergency regardless of jurisdiction. For example, if a fire is on the Tempe/Mesa border and Tempe Fire is closer to the incident than Mesa, Tempe will respond. This decreases response times, provides the department with unlimited resources, and is a more efficient and effective use of resources throughout the Phoenix area. Any City of Tempe engagement on City Councilmember social media posts is not an attempt to influence the outcome of any election, in violation of Arizona law, or otherwise.

Help us congratulate Fire Engineer Tiffany Latta and Fire Captain Kevin Johnston, who were recently recognized for their service and dedication to our community.

🏈 Engineer Paramedic Tiffany Latta was honored on the field during halftime of ASU's football game against Baylor as ASU Firefighter of the Year.

With more than 25 years of service, Tiffany has taken on some of the department's most challenging assignments, serving on the Technical Rescue, Hazardous Materials and Dive teams. She currently serves as Staff Engineer and earned her bachelor's degree in nursing from ASU in 2020.

But ask her coworkers what makes her special, and they'll tell you about her positivity, sense of humor and the way she makes everyone around her better.

🏅 Captain Paramedic Kevin Johnston was named Firefighter of the Year by the Tempe Elks Lodge.

Kevin has helped improve how our firefighters document and deliver emergency medical care. He also played a key role in developing community CPR training and Narcan programs that help residents learn lifesaving skills and access resources when they need them.

Congratulations, Tiffany and Kevin! We're proud to have you serving Tempe.

Sweater weather is officially here, and that means one more thing to check before you buckle up: removing the bulky coat before buckling the car seat. A thick coat can compress in a crash, leaving the harness too loose to do its job. Buckle and secure the harness first, then you can add the coat over the top or use it as a blanket instead. This small move can make a big difference in how well the harness can protect your rider.
