🔥 Are you playing with fire in your marriage?

Most affairs don’t begin with someone deciding, “I’m going to betray my spouse.” They often begin with seemingly small choices. A private conversation. A deleted text. A little flirting. Sharing something you wouldn’t want your spouse to hear. Allowing yourself to enjoy attention from someone just a little too much.

And then, little by little, boundaries move.

I’ve sat with hundreds of couples over the years, and I can tell you that the pain caused by both physical and emotional affairs can be devastating.

Betrayal trauma is real.

It can shake a person’s sense of safety, trust, identity, and even their understanding of what was real in their relationship.

So don’t wait until something becomes an affair to protect your marriage.

If there’s chemistry, create distance.
If you’re hiding it, pay attention.
If you wouldn’t do it with your spouse standing beside you, that’s information.

Strong marriages don’t just happen because two people have good intentions. We protect them with good boundaries. 🤍

Protect what you’ve built. Don’t play with fire.

If your marriage has been impacted by betrayal, or you want help strengthening your connection, Safe Harbor Counseling Center is here to help. 🌊

🍂 Hello, September. 🍂

There’s something about the beginning of a new month that feels like a gentle invitation to reset.

As August fades, maybe September doesn’t need to be about doing more. Maybe it can be about making a little more room…for rest, for clarity, for connection, for the people we love, and for the simple things that bring us back to ourselves.

Take what you’ve learned from the season behind you.
Release what you don’t need to carry forward.
And step gently into what comes next. 🤍

Here’s to a September filled with lighter hearts, quieter minds, meaningful connection, and moments that remind us what truly matters.

Connection before correction. 🤍

When kids are upset, their brains aren’t ready for a lesson. Start by helping them feel safe, seen, and understood.

Connect first. Calm together. Teach later.

Because children learn best when they feel safe with us. 🌊

Your feelings don’t always need fixing. Sometimes they need listening. 🤍

We tend to label emotions as good or bad…happiness is good, sadness is bad, calm is good, anger is bad.

But what if all of our emotions have something valuable to tell us?

Feelings are information. They give us data about what is happening inside of us and around us. And sometimes the goal isn’t to immediately calm down, regulate, or make an uncomfortable feeling disappear.

Sometimes the invitation is to get curious and listen.

What is this feeling trying to tell me?

Maybe your anger is telling you that a boundary has been crossed.
Maybe your sadness is telling you that something mattered deeply.
Maybe your anxiety is asking you to slow down and pay attention.
Maybe your exhaustion is telling you that you need rest.
Maybe your loneliness is reminding you that you need connection.

God gave us emotions for a reason. They can be messengers…helping us recognize what we need, what matters to us, and where something may need our attention.

So instead of asking, “How do I get rid of this feeling?” try asking:

“What information is this feeling giving me?”

Listen first. Then decide what you want to do with the information. 🌊

We are here to listen too. 951-252-8411. Safe Harbor Counseling Center

💭 Worry loves “WHAT IF?”

Kids’ anxious brains can come up with all kinds of scary what ifs:

“What if my friend isn’t there?”
“What if I mess up?”
“What if I can’t do it?”

One simple way we can help is by teaching kids to turn their “WHAT IF?” into an “EVEN IF.”

✨ Even if I feel nervous, I can still try.
✨ Even if I make a mistake, I can try again.
✨ Even if things don’t go the way I hoped, I can handle it.

We don’t have to convince kids that nothing difficult will happen. Instead, we can help them build confidence that even when hard things happen, they can cope. 💙 call us for help! 951-252-8411

❤️💙You’re sitting on the same couch.
You’re technically “spending time together.”
But one of you is watching reels and the other is 47 videos deep into something you don’t even remember searching for. 😂

Social media isn’t the enemy..we LOVE it! It connects us, entertains us, teaches us things, and gives us plenty to laugh about together.

But when does a helpful tool start hijacking our connection?

On this episode of Marriage Is a Joke, Abe and Elaine are talking about:

📱 Doom-scrolling instead of connecting
😂 Sending reels instead of actually talking
👀 Comparing your very real marriage to everyone else’s highlight reel
🚩 Taking TikTok or IG relationship advice a little too seriously
💬 DMs, old flames, and why online boundaries matter when you’re married
😵‍💫 The difference between relaxing on your phone and completely checking out

Plus, we share practical ways to enjoy social media WITHOUT letting it take over your marriage.

Our bottom line?

❤️ Use technology to turn TOWARD each other..not away from each other.
