PATRIOT DAY – SEPTEMBER 11

Today, we pause to remember the nearly 3,000 lives lost during the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001, and to honor the countless heroes who responded with extraordinary courage and selflessness.

We remember the firefighters, police officers, emergency responders, members of our military, and ordinary citizens who stepped forward to help others in a time of unimaginable tragedy.

Patriot Day is also a reminder of the unity our nation showed in the days that followed. Americans came together as neighbors, communities, and as a country.

Today, we honor those we lost, those who served, and the families whose lives were forever changed.

May we never forget September 11, 2001.

WORLD SU***DE PREVENTION DAY

Today, September 10, we recognize World Su***de Prevention Day, a global effort to raise awareness, encourage understanding, and remind people that su***de can be prevented.

World Su***de Prevention Day was established in 2003 by the International Association for Su***de Prevention in collaboration with the World Health Organization. Since then, communities around the world have used this day to promote education, reduce stigma, and encourage open and compassionate conversations about su***de and mental health.

One of the most important messages of today is simple: you do not have to face difficult times alone. Checking in on a friend, family member, coworker, or neighbor and taking the time to listen can make a meaningful difference.

If you or someone you know is struggling or experiencing a crisis, help is available. In the United States, call or text 988 to reach the Su***de & Crisis Lifeline, available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

Take care of yourself, look out for one another, and never underestimate the importance of reaching out.

HAPPY LABOR DAY!

Today we celebrate Labor Day, a day dedicated to recognizing the contributions, achievements, and hard work of American workers.

The history of Labor Day dates back to the late 1800s, when many Americans worked long hours under difficult and often unsafe conditions. Workers began organizing and advocating for shorter workdays, safer workplaces, and better working conditions.

The first Labor Day parade was held in New York City on September 5, 1882, when thousands of workers took unpaid time off to march together. The movement continued to grow, and in 1894, Labor Day became a federal holiday, celebrated each year on the first Monday in September.

Today, Labor Day has also become the unofficial end of summer, a time for cookouts, gatherings, parades, and spending time with family and friends. But at its heart, the holiday remains a celebration of the American worker and the important role working men and women have played in building and strengthening our communities and our nation.

❤️ INTERNATIONAL DAY OF CHARITY ❤️

Today we recognize International Day of Charity, established by the United Nations in 2012 to encourage charitable giving, volunteering, and helping those in need around the world.

The day is observed on September 5, the anniversary of the death of Mother Teresa, whose life was dedicated to serving the poor and vulnerable. In 1950, she founded the Missionaries of Charity, which grew to provide care through shelters, orphanages, clinics, schools, soup kitchens and other programs around the world.

Mother Teresa received the Nobel Peace Prize in 1979 for her humanitarian work and was later canonized as Saint Teresa of Calcutta.

International Day of Charity reminds us that making a difference doesn’t always require a grand gesture. Whether through a donation, volunteering your time, supporting a local organization, or simply helping someone in need, every act of kindness can make our community and our world a little better. ❤️🤝

🏠 REMINDER: BUILDING ADDRESS NUMBERS 🏠

Telford Borough would like to remind residents and property owners that the Borough’s Building Numbering Ordinance, No. 432, takes effect, Tuesday, September 8, 2026, following the one-year period provided for property owners to come into compliance.

Having your address clearly displayed isn’t just about following Borough regulations, it helps police, fire, EMS, delivery drivers, and other services quickly locate your property when needed.

Please take a few minutes to check your property and make sure:

🔹 Your house or building number is clearly visible from the street or nearest public access.
🔹 Numbers are legible and contrast with their background.
🔹 Trees, shrubs, decorations, or other objects are not blocking the numbers.
🔹 New address-number installations use numbers that are at least 4 inches high.
🔹 If your home sits back from the road and the number cannot be easily seen, the address is displayed near the driveway or other appropriate location visible from the roadway.

🚒🚑🚓 In an emergency, every second counts. Clearly displayed address numbers help our emergency responders find you as quickly as possible.

🥫 NATIONAL FOOD BANK DAY 🥫

Today we recognize National Food Bank Day, a day dedicated to raising awareness about hunger, reducing food waste, and supporting the organizations and volunteers who help make sure our neighbors have food on the table.

The modern food bank movement began in 1967, when John van Hengel helped establish St. Mary’s Food Bank in Arizona. After seeing both the tremendous amount of usable food being discarded and the growing number of people struggling with hunger, he developed a simple but powerful idea: collect surplus food that would otherwise go to waste and distribute it to those who need it.

National Food Bank Day was established in 2017, marking the 50th anniversary of the founding of the first food bank. Observed in early September, it is also an important reminder that food banks need community support throughout the year, particularly as we approach the colder months and holiday season.

🥫 How can you help? Consider donating nonperishable food, making a monetary contribution, volunteering your time, or simply helping spread the word about hunger in our communities.

A few donated items or a few hours of your time may seem small, but when an entire community comes together, those contributions can make a tremendous difference.

Today, we thank the food banks, community organizations, volunteers, businesses and residents who work every day to make sure our neighbors in need are not forgotten. ❤️

⚾ NATIONAL SPALDING BASEBALL DAY ⚾

Today we celebrate National Spalding Baseball Day, honoring both America’s pastime and one of the men who helped shape the game, Albert Goodwill “A.G.” Spalding.

Born on September 2, 1850, in Byron, Illinois, Spalding became one of baseball’s early stars. He pitched professionally for the Boston Red Stockings and Chicago White Stockings during the 1870s before continuing his career as a manager and baseball executive.

But Spalding’s influence extended far beyond the field. He helped standardize and promote the rules of baseball and, with his brother, founded the sporting goods company that still bears the Spalding name today. He was also an early advocate for the use of baseball gloves and helped make quality sporting equipment more widely available.

Spalding believed baseball could reach far beyond the United States. In 1888–1889, he organized an ambitious world baseball tour that took players across the globe, including stops in Australia, Egypt, Italy, France, England and Ireland, helping introduce the game to new audiences.

⚾ National Spalding Baseball Day recognizes A.G. Spalding’s contributions while also celebrating the generations of players, coaches and fans who have made baseball such an enduring part of American culture.

From just 35 Reservists at its beginning, the Reserve grew rapidly during World War I and has continued to serve alongside active-duty Marines through conflicts and missions around the world.

Today, we recognize the dedication, sacrifice, and commitment of the men and women who have served, and continue to serve, in the Marine Corps Reserve.
