Sharing a message that was sent to all coaches to share with all student-athletes participating in Track and Field.

PLEASE REMIND your athletes that absolutely NO Personal Electronic Devices of theirs should be on the infield, in the staging area or in competition areas, as it is a violation of NFHS Rule 4-6-6c, which states 'athletes are not permitted to wear any audio or video recording or transmitting devices during a race, trial, or while in restricted areas. This restriction minimizes potential distractions and interference with performance. Unfortunately at the meet Saturday, an athlete had recorded their leg of the relay they were in, with smartglasses on, and spread evidence of this NFHS rules violation on TikTok.
Rules violation aside, PLEASE REMIND your athletes/students of the dangers of over-sharing content online. Our adolescents these days are obsessed with materialism and their online statuses -gaining followers and 'likes' and trying to go viral- much of the time, with little regard for sensitive personal information or potentially incriminating evidence against themselves, being shared.
