Tecumseh Firefighters The official home of the City of Tecumseh (MI) Fire Department. The Emergency Services Department is headed by Chief Joseph C. Tuckey.

When engaging with the City through social media you agree to our Social Media Customer Use Policy found online at https://www.mytecumseh.org/social_media_guidelines/index.php The Tecumseh City Charter delegates responsibility to the Emergency Services Department for the prevention and suppression of fires, calling for a Fire Chief to be appointed by the City Manager with City Council approval to

administer the operations of the department. The Emergency Services Department is a combination department, employing a mixture of career and volunteer, or part-paid, firefighters. Full time positions include the Chief and three firefighters with medical licenses at or above the EMT-Specialist level. These three firefighters work a 24-hour rotation, which insures the department is staffed 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year. Part-paid members of the staff carry pagers and are on call around the clock to respond to all calls. The department provides fire protection to the City of Tecumseh and by contract to Tecumseh Township from one station, located at the intersection of South Evans Street and Russell Road. Currently there are no fees to the City residents, with one exception; Fees may be charged for hazardous material incidents.

South Maumee Street Gas Leak Repaired – Roadway Reopened
September 23, 2025

The City of Tecumseh is pleased to announce that the natural gas leak reported on South Maumee Street between Chicago Boulevard and Kilbuck Street has been repaired. As of this morning, South Maumee Street is now open to all traffic.

The City would like to thank the Tecumseh Fire Department and Consumers Energy for their prompt and diligent response and also express gratitude to the residents, visitors, and businesses for their cooperation and patience during this incident.

Gas Leak Causes Road Closure On South Maumee Street

The City of Tecumseh is advising the public of a road closure due to a reported gas leak on South Maumee Street between Chicago Boulevard and Kilbuck Street.

For the safety of the community, this section of South Maumee will remain closed to all traffic until further notice while utility crews respond to the situation and conduct necessary repairs.

The Tecumseh Fire Department is on scene securing the area and has directly contacted all residents and businesses within a one-block radius. If you have not been contacted, there is no need for additional precautions at this time.

Motorists are encouraged to seek alternate routes and avoid the area. The City will provide updates as soon as more information becomes available and the roadway is deemed safe for travel.

NOTICE:

Beginning on Monday, April 28, 2025, Russell Road will be closed from Rogers Highway to Mill Highway. The closure is due to bridge rehabilitation, and the section will be open once rehabilitation is complete.

🚨 Tornado Siren Test Alert 🚨

Lenawee County Emergency Management will conduct a county-wide tornado siren test on Thursday, March 20, 2025, at 5:55 PM in coordination with many local fire departments.

This test is done in advance of severe weather season to ensure public safety. Please help spread the word and use this as a reminder to review your emergency preparedness plans! 🌪️⚠️
