The Teaneck Volunteer Ambulance Corps was created by just a few men in 1939 to serve the residents of Teaneck, NJ. We have always been Teaneck's only emergency ambulance service, and have since grown to include over 100 members in our organization. We respond to over 4,000 emergency calls a year, routinely saving lives and reducing suffering with our rapid response and application of Basic Life Su

pport skills. We are your neighbors.................students, teachers, doctors, firefighters, theater workers, technology professionals and healthcare administrators. We are also highly trained certified Emergency Medical Technicians who regularly continue our education by taking courses to stay current on improvements in CPR techniques and first-aid equipment. The Teaneck Volunteer Ambulance Corps works with the Teaneck Police Department, Teaneck Fire Department and paramedics from area hospitals to bring you the care that you need, regardless of the hour of day or day of the week. TVAC would cease to exist to provide that care if it were not for the generous financial contributions of our residents and former patients. We thank you in advance for enabling us to continue to provide you with the quality of care that you deserve.

We would like to wish an Eid Mubarak to all who are celebrating, from our family at TVAC to yours.

On Memorial Day we remember and honor the brave men and women of the armed forces who served with distinction and gave their lives to defend our nation. We remember those who have fallen in the line of duty and thank those who have served and who continue to serve.

During EMS week, we would like to acknowledge our EMS partners, who work alongside us in our joint effort to help Teaneck’s residents during emergencies.

TVAC works closely with our area hospitals’ advanced life support (ALS) programs. For certain critical emergency calls, these ALS programs bring paramedics directly to the emergency alongside TVAC's EMTs. Paramedics bring the capabilities of the Emergency Room into our ambulance, performing EKGs, starting IVs, administering emergency medications, and performing advanced airway techniques.

Thank you to the paramedics and nurses who respond with ALS from our local hospitals, Holy Name, Englewood Health, and Hackensack University Medical Center Hackensack Meridian Health. It is through our partnership that we are able to serve Teaneck’s residents so proficiently. We are privileged to have you aboard our ambulances and appreciate everything you do for our patients!

In honor of EMS week, we would like to highlight our incredible and robust membership. TVAC has over 250 members who show up to serve the township during emergencies. Every single one of our members is a volunteer — none of our members have ever received compensation for their work.

What TVAC accomplishes each and every day is truly remarkable. TVAC is one of the busiest volunteer ambulance squads in the state, responding to 4700 calls per year and often covering simultaneous calls, even during the workday and on the overnight. And, of course, all of these calls are covered entirely by volunteers.

We do what we do because we are passionate, and we do what we do because we care. We do what we do because it’s the only thing we can imagine doing, and because there is nowhere else we would rather be.

Thank you so much to our members for doing what you do each and every day. We hope you have an Happy EMS week!

The next few days are predicted to be unseasonably hot with temperatures rising into the high 90s by Tuesday.
Stay safe in the heat by following these safety tips:

1. Hydrate
Drink constantly: Drink water every 15 to 20 minutes, even if you do not feel thirsty.
Limit coffee, soda, and alcohol: they cause your body to lose fluids faster.
Monitor indicators: Check your urine color; it should ideally look like pale lemonade, not dark apple juice.

2. Optimize Personal Cooling
Wear lightweight clothes: Choose loose-fitting, light-colored, and breathable fabrics like cotton or moisture-wicking synthetic blends.
Protect your skin: Wear a wide-brimmed hat, sunglasses, and broad-spectrum sunscreen.
Seek air conditioning: Spend time in public libraries, shopping malls, or designated cooling centers if your home lacks air conditioning.

3. Adjust Outdoor Habits
Time your outings: Limit outdoor exposure to early mornings or late evenings when temperatures and the UV index are lowest.
Pace your activities: Take frequent, mandatory breaks in shaded or air-conditioned areas to let your core temperature drop.
Never leave passengers: Check the backseat every time you park; car interiors can reach lethal temperatures in minutes.
Check on others: Monitor high-risk individuals regularly, including toddlers, elderly neighbors, and outdoor workers.
