The hardworking ladies at the Claiborne County Public Library are at it again, getting as many books into the hands of readers as possible via the Fall Book &Yard Sale. The Friends of Claiborne County Public Library work shoulder to shoulder with staff to bring about yet another successful event. The results have spoken for themselves year after year – may we say decades over - through the raising of much-needed funds that continue the good work of providing all the Library does for county residents.
The event will run from Oct.5-10 inside the Library basement and expanding onto the grassy knoll adjacent to the downstairs. What do you crave? Would a good romance or mystery thriller make your reading bone tingle? How about some gently-used yard sale items? The event promises good selections from clothing to furniture and everything in-between.
Push your worries about the escalating cost of living out of your head as you browse the aisles of books, DVDs, CDs and magazines the prices of which have not gone up one thin penny. Hardback and audio books, along with movies, music and puzzles have remained at the nominal cost of just $1 each. Fifty cents (just two quarters) will purchase a Tradeback book.
You can go home with an armful of paperbacks and magazines for the purchase price of just one thin dime for each selection. Talk about a bargain!
The weeklong event runs Monday through Wednesday from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Thursday and Friday from 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. and Saturday from 9 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Everything is sold cash only ‘as is’. All proceeds go toward the continued running of the Claiborne County Public Library.
That means, free use of computers and special programs for all age groups like the Summer Reading Program, the Home School Group, Story Time, Bingo for Books and various outreach programs to Nursing Homes and schools.
Included in the list of helps are several state and federal programs to further assist our county residents.
Supporting our public library just seems to be the logical thing to do. Besides, winter will be here before you know it and you’ll be stocked with items to make those long evenings a pleasant stay.
