Temperatures are getting colder. ❄️ As you heat your home, prevent home fires and carbon monoxide poisoning. Install and test smoke alarms and carbon monoxide detectors with battery backups, and make sure you keep anything that can burn 3 feet away from heat sources.

: Knowing how to store and safely treat water is vital for you and your family’s health and survival. You last only three to four days without water. Make it a priority.

💦Plan a minimum one gallon of water per person per day. Store a minimum two week supply, or 14 gallons per person.

☀️Sunlight and extremes in 🌡️temperatures cause algae to grow in stored water and can break down plastic containers causing them to leak. Cycles of freezing and thawing can loosen seals or even break storage containers.

💧Pre-bottled water is fine for short-term water storage, but be aware that the bottles are designed to breakdown after a number of years. Be sure to rotate it.

🫙High-Density Polyethylene containers are designed for safe, long-term use. Look for “HDPE” and “2” symbols. Rinse containers with hot water before filling. Don’t use milk jugs and don’t ever use a container that held chemicals or anything toxic.

Prepare emergency water storage the best way you can. Do the best with what you have. Don’t get discouraged. Something is always better than nothing. Get ideas and tips from Be Ready Utah.
