🌲πŸ”₯ Attention Plumas County Residents! πŸ”₯🌲

Starting November 1st, 2024, outdoor burning will be allowed with a CAL FIRE Burn Permit and, if applicable, an NSAQMD Air Pollution Permit.

πŸ”Ή **Burn Permit Types (available online for FREE):**
1. Residential Burn Permits LE-62A (4x4 foot piles)
2. General Burn Permits LE-5 (larger piles/agricultural burning)
3. Broadcast Burn Permits LE-7/8 (underburning in timber/brush)

πŸ”Έ **NOTE:** NSAQMD permits are needed for:
- Burning 1 acre or more
- Any burning in East Quincy & Downtown Quincy (check the map!)
- Non-residential properties

🚫 Please remember: NO burning in Portola city limits!

When burning, ensure:
- You're present until your pile is completely out
- The area is wet to prevent fire spread
- Your pile is dry, 4x4 feet, and free of trash
- You have a shovel and water on hand
- Conditions aren’t windy and the wind is blowing away from people/homes

πŸ‘‰ Current weather isn’t ideal for burning, so consider waiting until grounds are more saturated!

For questions, reach out to Joe Walton (CAL FIRE) at [email protected] or Melissa Klundby (NSAQMD) at [email protected].

The community of Taylorsville's Trunk or Treat event is always a highlight of our year. The creative costumes, notably Gus Kingdon's lumberjack outfit, were a delight. We appreciate the many individuals who visited and exercised caution. On a separate note, don't forget to verify your smoke detectors are functioning properly.

While it may be convenient to have wood piles close to the house for easy access, it's important to understand that they can pose a fire hazard. Relocating wood piles to Zone 2, which is a designated area farther away from the home, can help create defensible space and reduce the risk of fire spreading to the house. This can ultimately lead to a safer environment for homeowners and their property.

Conditions permitting, Plumas National Forest firefighters on the Feather River Ranger District are planning to start prescribed burning tomorrow (Wednesday, May 31) in the Forbestown, Challenge, Woodleaf and Clipper Mills area.

Approximately 152 acres are planned on three units for treatment between tomorrow and June 4. Ignitions may take up to 4 days and smoke may be visible for another 2 to 5 days.

Smoke is expected to be visible but not have significant long-term impacts to nearby communities, including Forbestown, Challenge, Woodleaf and Clipper Mills. It may also be visible from Olive Highway, the Lake Oroville area and possibly the valley.

Short duration, minor smoke impacts are expected along Forbestown and LaPorte Roads and neighboring forest roads. Drivers in the area should use caution, watch for fire equipment exiting and entering area roadways, and possible slow traffic.

See news release for more information. Hoping to have photos and updates to share tomorrow!
