A tremendous opportunity to do good for our neighbors in Beaver.

On Saturday, they are looking for hundreds of volunteers to help clean up properties damaged during this year’s floods. All work will be done outside.

If you attend, please note the request to wear muck boots, durable clothing, and to bring work gloves, as well as your own snacks and water.

UPDATE: The meeting location for Saturday has been changed from the Baseball Complex Parking Lot to the City Center Pavilion. The check in time is from 9:00 am - 10:00 am.

Good day to stay indoors and away from slot canyons, normally dry washes, slickrock areas, and areas that have burn scars, especially if those burn scars are less than 5 years old.

During storms, don't let anyone sleep in a basement. Flooding can fill a basement in seconds.

UPDATE: Today's Flood Watch has been expanded to include the entire southern two-thirds of Utah. Showers and thunderstorms will become widespread again this afternoon, and any storms that develop will be capable of producing heavy rain that could lead to flash flooding. Those with outdoor plans in flood prone areas need to consider alternate plans. Have multiple ways to receive weather warnings!

There is a moderate risk for excessive rainfall in Southern and Eastern Utah Monday (8/31) afternoon into the evening. Rainfall could start in the morning. (Image in first comment)

Scroll to 1:20 in this US National Weather Service Salt Lake City Utah video to see the flash flood watch areas of the state. 1:58 will show likely areas of excessive rainfall. (Excessive rainfall means rain that is falling faster than can be absorbed by soil or contained by stream channels)

With tomorrow’s flash flood threat some reminders:

• Remember, if you see floodwaters, turn around, don’t drown.

• Stay out of slot canyons, normally dry washes, slickrock areas, and areas that have burn scars, especially if those burn scars are less than 5 years old.

• During storms, don't let anyone sleep in a basement. Flooding can fill a basement in seconds.

• Avoid walking through or driving through flooded areas. Floodwaters can have hidden dangers, such as eroded roadways or contaminants.

• Moving floodwaters can be swifter than you expect.

• Six inches of water can knock a person over. One foot of water can float a vehicle away.

• Pay attention to local officials. If the situation becomes dangerous, they may issue evacuation orders without much notice.

Many hiking areas throughout Utah are rated “Probable” for flash flooding on Saturday.

This means some slot canyons, dry washes, and small streams are expected to experience flash flooding.
