Governor Josh Stein has officially proclaimed June 2026 as Whole Child Health and Well-Being Month in North Carolina.
The proclamation recognizes the importance of ensuring every child has the opportunity to be healthy, safe, educated, resilient, and prepared for lifelong success. It also specifically acknowledges the Decade of the Child Initiative and its roadmap for action as a resource for strengthening the positive and protective conditions that help children thrive.
This recognition reflects growing awareness that supporting children’s health and wellbeing is essential to building stronger families, communities, and futures.

Angela Adams, Director of Calling Kids Child Development Center in Hiddenite, NC; Ashli Elder, Executive Director of Alexander County Partnership for Children; and Macy Jones, NC Head Start Collaboration Director, were honored to attend a reception at the Governor’s Mansion celebrating North Carolina’s Child Care Providers.
Governor Josh Stein, Lt. Governor Rachel Hunt, Senator Jim Burgin, and DCDEE Director Candice Witherspoon spoke about the child care crisis in North Carolina and the importance of investing in children and the professionals who support working families every day. Governor Stein also signed a proclamation declaring today Child Care Provider Appreciation Day!
We are thankful for the dedicated child care professionals who make a difference in the lives of children and families across our county and state every day!
