ADMINISTRATIVE ORDER TEMPORARILY CLOSING THE COURT
WHEREAS, the Unified Police Department and city administration have informed the Court that a large number of people are anticipated to gather in and around the Taylorsville City Hall this afternoon and evening in protest which will disrupting traffic; and,
WHEREAS, the Taylorsville Municipal Justice Court is located in City Hall; and,
WHEREAS, recent protests elsewhere in Salt Lake County have resulted in injury to persons and damage to property; and,
WHEREAS, the Taylorsville Municipal Justice Court supports the peaceful exercise of the Constitutional rights guaranteed by the U.S. Constitution and Utah Constitution; and,
WHEREAS, the Taylorsville city administration has determined that city employees will be ordered to vacate City Hall in order to protect the health and safety of city employees; and,
WHEREAS, it may not be safe for court patrons to be in or around City Hall; and,
WHEREAS, that pursuant to Rule 4-410 of the Code of Judicial Administration, the presiding judge has determined that the courthouse is not date due to an emergency situation; and,
WHEREAS, the presiding judge has consulted with the court executive, court security and at the recommendation of city administration and Unified Police Department; and,
WHEREAS, no suitable location and the absence of portable computer technology makes operations at an alternative location impossible; and,
THEREFORE, pursuant to the authority of Rule 4-410, the presiding judge orders that the Taylorsville Municipal Justice Court will temporarily cease operations at 12:00 p.m. on Friday, July 10, 2020 and will resume operations at 8:00 a.m. on Monday, July 13, 2020; and,
IT IS FURTHER ORDERED that all filing deadlines and payments due on Friday, July 10, 2020 are extended to 5:00 p.m. on Monday, July 13, 2020.
