Meet you there!

BUSY WEEKEND PLANNED IN TAYLOR: The 2026 Armed Forces Day Celebration kicks off several activities across Taylor this weekend. It will be presented by the Taylor Veterans Museum at 11 a.m. on Saturday, May 16 and will be held in the City Hall Council Chambers. This is a salute to military veterans. The public is invited. Hear presentations and speeches and visit the museum afterward. Armed Forces Day in the United States is celebrated on the third Saturday of May. It was established in 1949 by then-Secretary of Defense Louis Johnson. The day is part of National Military Appreciation Month, which runs from May 1-31.

Meanwhile, a plant sale will be held at the Taylor Conservatory & Botanical Gardens on Saturday and Sunday. Discover and purchase not-so-common annuals and perennials, plus delicious vegetable and herb plants, all lovingly nurtured by our amazing volunteers. Your purchases support the maintenance of our beautiful gardens. Bring a piece of the Conservatory home with you and make your garden bloom.

The Heritage Park Petting Farm will also host its annual “Wild Weekend” on Saturday and Sunday. Visit exotic animals in addition to your regular friends at the farm. Event runs from 11 a.m.-4 p.m. both days. Tickets are $5 per person – 1-year-olds and under are free.

Lastly, don’t forget the annual figure skating show at the Taylor Sportsplex, which starts tonight with a 7 p.m. show. “Hop Into Wonderland Ice Show!” whether it is at 7 p.m. tonight (May 15) or 1 and 6 p.m. Saturday (May 16). Admission is $10 per person at the door.

Explore Taylor and enjoy the weekend!

HERITAGE PARK CLEAN-UP DAY, an annual event in Taylor that goes back more than a decade, is scheduled for the morning of Saturday, May 2. Volunteers are asked to meet in the Pardee Road parking lot of Heritage Park, in front of the Sheridan Open Air Pavilion, by 9 a.m. that morning. The clean-up usually involves walking through the park and picking up paper and other debris. The event lasts two hours. Clean-up founder Jim Taylor will address volunteers before they are dispatched throughout the park. Volunteers should dress the part, including boots and gloves (although disposable plastic gloves will be provided). Bags and buckets will be provided. “Participation certificates” will be provided if needed. For more information, call Jim Taylor at (734) 666-8968.

🇺🇸 Today, we pause to honor the brave.

To every veteran who stood watch while we slept, who answered the call when others turned away, and who carried burdens most of us will never fully understand—thank you.

Your courage built the foundation of our freedom.
Your sacrifice echoes through generations.
Your legacy lives not just in history books, but in the quiet moments of peace we enjoy each day.

Whether you served in combat, supported from afar, or continue to serve in spirit—your commitment matters. Deeply.

To the families who stood beside you, who waited, prayed, and held hope—you are heroes too.

Today, we remember. We honor. We commit to living lives worthy of your sacrifice.

With gratitude, respect, and love—Happy Veterans Day.
