Great job to Taylor North the boys are bringing the trophy home! They should invite the surviving members of the 59 Hamtramck team to celebrate and take a "team picture"!

I've been asked to present my platform for my term on City Council. I've thought long and hard about it. I could use catchphrases, hyperbole and make promises to get your vote. But then I would be forced to retract them or make excuses as to why I didn't accomplish them. I have chosen to go another direction. HONESTY.

As a member of the Council I will only get things done if I use a logical, rational and honest approach when making a proposal that will convince at least three other council members and the Mayor to agree with me. It's not about me. I'm not entering into politics to make friends or enrich myself. I'm happy with the quantity and quality of friends I currently have.

My focus the next four years will be centered on the following matters: Fiscal Responsibility, Integrity, Honesty and Accountability.

Fiscal Responsibility:

It's not my money. I am morally obligated to spend it wisely and responsibly. I am legally required to spend it in conformity with the city charter and state and federal laws and regulations.

Contracts must be entered into seeking the best price and performance and not based on campaign contributions and short term fixes.

Integrity:

City government and employees should be held to a higher standard. We should expect our government and its civil servants to act in the City’s best interest. The City Charter grants Council members the authority to inspect all City Departments. I will use my time to develop an inspection checklist to ensure all departments are meeting their defined responsibilities.

Honesty and accountability:

All elected officials and city employees have contractual and legal requirements to fulfil the obligations of the position they hold. If there are grey areas that need to be brought into focus I will work with them to achieve clarity moving forward. I don't believe in rewarding bad behavior. If someone is not doing their job to the best of their ability you tell them. Then work together to make them successful.

City Government is not one person. We must come together as a community and make the best decisions for long term success. I will not shut down any proposal based on personal feelings. I will not only listen but will hear what is being said and pledge to provide constructive feedback as necessary.

Hello Taylor Residents,

I would like to take a few minutes of your time to introduce myself.

I have been a resident of Taylor since I was 3 years old. I received my education in the Taylor Public School System from Kindergarten at Myer Elementary School until I graduated from Truman High School in 1988.

On October 10 1988 I started Marine Recruit Training (boot camp). After graduating in December, I moved on to be trained as a CH-46 Helicopter mechanic and crew chief. Over the course of just over 22 years in the Marine Corps I had several Combat Tours in the Persian Gulf. In 2005 I was selected to serve at Marine Helicopter Squadron 1 (HMX-1) until I retired in March of 2011. During my time in the Marines I have attended several Professional Military Education Leadership Courses.
I hope to use my combined expertise and education to serve on the City Council. As a member, I hope to foster a culture of integrity and accountability to the Council and all City Departments. I will ensure there is an equitable distribution of city services to all areas, not just high property tax and high voter turn out neighborhoods. My intent is to make the citizens of Taylor the priority.

Integrity: People don't do what you expect they do what you inspect.

Accountability: Holding those in positions of power to their defined duties, responsibilities and obligations

Duty: My service to my country has been proven. Let me now serve you.

I hope that I can earn your vote in the August 3 primary.

Today I filed my petitions to get on the ballot for City Council. After the City Clerk's office screened them, I received notification that I have met the requirements to be on the ballot for the primary election on August 3rd. I will be posting more information soon on my platform and goals as a member of the Council. I would like to thank all of you who signed my petitions and I look forward to your continued support.

After serving my country for 22 years in the Marine Corps the time is right for me to serve my city. I am running for a seat in the City of Taylor for City Council. I am currently collecting signatures to get my name on the ballot. I will be updating the group as information becomes available.
