Our annual TCFD Fire Families gathering was another great success! We enjoyed everyone’s company so much that we forgot to take photos.

A sincere thank you to Firefighter Thomas Bruning for the extra time and effort he put into preparing the main course. Events like this take a lot of work behind the scenes, and his dedication helped make the day special for everyone. We’d also like to thank Route 23 BBQ for donating their assistance and support in helping prepare the meal.

Most importantly, thank you to all of our firefighters, families, and supporters who joined us. Your support means more than you know. Every time we answer the call to serve our community, our families are there supporting us behind the scenes. Their sacrifices, understanding, and encouragement make it possible for us to do what we do. We couldn’t do this job without them.

The strength of our department comes not only from those who serve, but from the families who stand beside us every step of the way.

🚒 Training together to stay ready 🚒

Our team participated in a joint wildland fire refresher training. Opportunities like this help ensure we stay sharp, coordinated, and prepared to respond when it matters most.

A big thank you to the East Tawas Fire Department for hosting and to the members of the U.S. Forest Service for sharing their expertise and providing such valuable training.

Strong partnerships make stronger responses. 💪🔥

New gear day is always a great day. Our firefighters were excited to show off new safety equipment purchased through the 2026 Volunteer Fire Capacity (VFC) Grant. This project was made possible with approval from the Michigan Department of Natural Resources and the support and approval of our City Council.

We are incredibly grateful for this investment in our department and our people. The new hard hats, goggles, gloves, shovels, and other equipment not only look great, they help ensure our firefighters stay safe, prepared, and ready to serve when our community needs us most.

Thank you to everyone who helped make this possible and for continuing to support firefighter safety.

Last night, it was a wonderful surprise for Fire Chief Masich to attend the Saginaw Spirit hockey game and witness one of our own hometown heroes, Dave Thunburg, being recognized as a proud military veteran.

Dave served our country as a Corporal in the United States Marine Corps in 1969. Seeing him honored in front of a packed arena was a powerful reminder of the sacrifice, dedication, and courage of those who have served.

Dave is not only a veteran but continues to serve his community today as a member of the East Tawas Fire Department. His lifelong commitment to service, both to our nation and our neighboring communities, reflects the very best of what it means to wear the uniform.

We are incredibly proud to call the Tawas area home to heroes like Dave. These honors are well deserved, and we thank him for his service, his dedication, and the example he sets for all of us.

Please join the Tawas City Fire Department in congratulating and thanking Dave for his service.
