NEW PROGRAM ALERT! Our Educational Home School Program is excited to offer a community outreach program. Students and families will work together to clean up litter in our area. This is a wonderful opportunity for students to learn about responsibility, teamwork, environmental stewardship, and the importance of keeping our community clean and beautiful.

Join Keep Lake Beautiful’s Clean Up-A-Spot program for a hands-on volunteer experience that gives students the opportunity to make a difference by helping remove litter from their community. No experience is necessary, and KLB provides the cleanup supplies and safety information. It’s a fun way for students to earn volunteer hours and work together to help Keep Lake County Beautiful.
•The Clean Up site will be Downtown Tavares: Main St (and side streets) meet up at Wooton Park 100 E. Ruby Street Tavares, Fl 32778.
•Arrival time will be 9:30am and once the family’s check-in, sign the waivers, hear the safety brief, receive their supply distribution the clean up should begin at 10:00am-12:00pm!
•Please bring comfortable shoes, clothing, closed toe shoes, and water

TAVARES HISTORY MUESUM - FUN FACT FRIDAY!! Today, on the 25th anniversary of September 11, we remember and honor the heroes whose courage and sacrifice will never be forgotten. We also extend our heartfelt gratitude to our police officers and firefighters who put their lives on the line every day to protect our community and keep Tavares safe. Thank you for your bravery, dedication, and service.

Congratulations! Michelle has been a tremendous asset to the City of Tavares Babe Ruth League. She will do great things for Tavares High School Softball.

Michelle Towne Named Tavares High School New Softball Coach 🥎🔥

Michelle Towne has been announced as the new softball coach at Tavares High School for the upcoming 2027 high school softball season.

Coach Towne is a Clermont native. She played four years of varsity softball at East Ridge High School from 2002 to 2006. She also competed for the Clermont Crushers travel team from ages 10 to 18 before continuing her playing career at Lake-Sumter State College and Warner University.

Coach Towne is not new to the Tavares area. She has coached for the City of Tavares for the past six years helping with youth sports.

“My goal for this upcoming season is to build confidence in this program,” Towne says. “To show other schools that we have what it takes to compete and within the next few years of growth Tavares will be the school on everyone’s radar.”

Our Active Agers program at the Golden Triangle YMCA yesterday was FANTASTIC! Led by instructor Troy Cox, everyone who was in attendance got a great workout!

Come out and join this FREE, low impact fitness class next week where they are concentrating on this month’s theme: MOVEMENT, with a goal to increase energy levels!

⚽ TAVARES YOUTH SOCCER IS FINALLY ON THE FIELD! ⚽

After Mother Nature washed us out all week 🌧️, we were FINALLY able to kick off our official first practice for Tavares Youth Soccer! 🙌⚽

8U, 11U and some 6u players hit the field ready to learn, compete, have fun, and start building for an exciting season ahead! Seeing our young athletes, coaches, and families together made the wait worth it.

A huge THANK YOU to all of our parents and coaches for staying patient and flexible through the weather delays. 💪

The rain may have slowed us down, but it couldn’t stop us! 🌧️➡️☀️⚽

TAVARES HISTORY MUSEUM - FUN FACT FRIDAYS!! Tavares Was Overrun by Snakes! In 1895, Tavares experienced an unusual invasion. Rattlesnakes were appearing throughout the community! The frightening event became known as the story of the "Rioting Rattlers!" For National Wildlife Day, we are looking back at one of the wildest chapters in Tavares history. Could you imagine encountering rattlesnakes around town? Stop by the Tavares History Museum to discover this story and many more from our city's fascinating past!

NEW PROGRAM ALERT! Our Educational Home School Program is back and we are gearing up for a great year of learning. Our first stop will be at the Golden Triangle YMCA East Campus for a Bike Safety Program!

The Lake County Sheriff’s Office Bike Safety Program is an interactive educational program designed to teach children the basics of safe and responsible bicycling. Participants learn important safety practices such as wearing a properly fitted helmet, following traffic and roadway rules, recognizing common hazards, and staying alert while riding.

Through engaging demonstrations and activities, deputies help young riders build confidence and develop safe biking habits they can use at home and throughout the community. The program provides a fun opportunity for children to learn about bicycle safety while interacting with members of the Lake County Sheriff’s Office. This program will be held in the back parking lot of the YMCA by the basketball courts. It is recommended to bring your own water bottle no other supplies are needed. TAVARES HISTORY MUSEUM - FUN FACT FRIDAYS!! Educator Bennye Montine Jones-Kinsler was honored by Florida Governor Lawton Chiles in 1992 as having taught school longer (60 years) than any individual in Florida School History.

A big "Thank you!" goes out to all our wonderful teachers who help make Tavares schools so Special! If you would like to learn more about Tavares history, please stop by the Tavares History Museum. We love sharing our knowledge, telling stories, and even learning something new from our visitors!

Museum Hours: Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM.
