Join the fun with Lake County 4-H Culinary Crew! This program will expand your child's ability to prepare healthy and delicious foods through learning-by-doing. Youth will learn a variety of cooking skills such as food safety, knife skills (using plastic training knives), cooking methods, nutrition, and meal planning!

Did you know nutrition plays a role in mood regulation and brain health? Not only is it important for preventing the inevitable mood swing that occurs when we all get too hungry, “hangry”, it also helps our brain function! Have you ever wondered what foods help keep our brain healthy? Most of us know about calcium and Vitamin D to help build bones, and protein to help build muscles, and fiber to help keep our heart and gut healthy, but what about the brain? Three major foods that help our brains healthy are omega-3 fatty acids, B vitamins, and antioxidants! Load up on colorful fruits and veggies, eat healthy fats like avocados or walnuts, and enjoy grains, beans, and leafy greens! Are you already eating some of these suggestions? Gut health is so important! The best way to start promoting good gut health is by establishing a good routine involving fiber, water, and exercise. These three components are the foundation on which we build good gut health. Increase your daily fiber and water intake. Aim to get 25-30 grams of fiber. Men should aim for 13 cups of water per day. Women should aim for 9 cups of water per day. Move your body! Walking, jogging, biking, and strength training are all great ways to increase physical activity and work toward your gut health goals!
