Heavy rain has impacted the region yesterday with the highest amounts falling along the I-95 corridor. Flash and urban flooding was observed along with some river flooding in RI. Rivers will continue to recede as the week remains mostly dry.

Southeastern NY and southern New England are experiencing heavy downpours throughout the day ending by 3 pm. Amounts up to 3+ inches is possible. Flash flooding and small stream flooding is likely, but river flooding is not forecast at this time.

Expect a warm front and a near-coastal low pressure area to develop this evening near the mouth of the Hudson River. The low pressure area is expected to track along the southern coastline of New England. As it advances, rain and embedded downpours will overspread southern New England, but especially eastern Connecticut, Rhode Island, and southeastern Massachusetts. Anticipated total rainfall amounts are the highest through about 2.00 inches for these mentioned areas. Downpours would produce higher amounts, potentially near 3 inches in 3 hours or less over smaller / localized areas. Rainfall amounts diminish below an inch for the remainder of New York state and northern New England. Then a cold front pushes south and east with drying conditions through Monday evening.

Saturday evening, expect a warm front advancing northeast from the Mid-Atlantic and a low pressure is expected to develop and shift east along the southern coastline of New England. As the low and warm front lifts northeast Sunday, rainfall with embedded downpours are expected to overspread primarily southeastern NY state and southern New England. Anticipated total rainfall amounts through Monday morning are highest for these areas through about 1.25 inches. However, localized downpours are possible and would deliver higher amounts. A cold front pushes south and east with drying conditions for Monday.

Most of the region experienced showers and thunderstorms yesterday into today. Much of northern New England had 0.25-1.00", with higher totals of up to 2" in central New York into southern Vermont. Dry weather is expected region-wide through the next 2 days before another system approaches Saturday afternoon into Sunday.

Rain continues throughout northern New York and northern New England this afternoon through Thursday morning. Totals of up to 1.75" are possible. Areas of higher elevation are more likely to see higher totals, but there may still be locally higher amounts due to the possibility of embedded thunderstorms.

Quiet today before a rain moves through the region Wednesday into Thursday. Totals up to 1.25" are possible in portions of NY/VT/NH. Streamflows are below normal in northern areas and Maine due to ongoing drought, so rain will be much needed.

Dry weather prevails today and tomorrow across the Northeast. Next opportunity for widespread precipitation will be Wednesday night into Thursday. Current precipitation totals are under 1.5 inches for most of the region.

There will be scattered showers today, mainly in New England. Rivers levels continue to recede from precipitation from last week or remain stable.
