Happy ! 🚗 Across the SRPEDD region, kids are going back to school! This means that more buses will be present on the road, and it's everyone's responsibility to make sure every child gets to school safely. 🏫

Millions of students ride the bus every day, and while school buses are one of the safest vehicles on the road, there were still 119 fatal injuries on a school bus between 2015 and 2024. 🛣️In every state, it is illegal for you to pass a school bus while the stop-arm is extended and the red lights are flashing. 🚍

To learn more about school bus safety, when to stop for school buses, and how to provide bus safety tips for children, scroll through the rest of this post. Please use this resource to help educate children and drivers you know! 🚦

Happy ! 🚗 Today, we are highlighting two Transportation Department Draft Plans available for public comment NOW! ✏️

📍Congestion Management Process Plan (CMPP): SRPEDD transportation staff have been updating the previous Congestion Management Plan that was published in 2023. Updates include an analysis of changes in primary congestion metrics including travel time reliability for interstate and non-interstate roadways, truck travel time reliability, and on-time performance for local regional transit authorities.

📍As the food access landscape is constantly changing, adapting, and evolving, the SMMPO Food Access and Security in Transportation (FAST) Plan provides a better understanding of the current food access landscape and provides suggestions for supporting regional food resilience and equitable healthy food access through integrated transportation investments and practices.

For these two plans, SRPEDD Announces a 21-day Public Comment Period with a Virtual Public Meeting on Monday, August 31, 2026, at 4:00 pm to hear comments on the release of the Draft Congestion Management Process Plan and Draft Food Access and Security in Transportation Plan for Southeastern Massachusetts. To learn more about how to participate, attend the virtual public meeting, and provide meaningful feedback on either plan, read through this post! 🛣️

Does your city or town have an up-to-date ADU bylaw/ordinance? Is your community looking for a permitting guide, build-out, or other ADU-related analysis? If so, SRPEDD can help!

SRPEDD’s Comprehensive Planning Department has funding to help communities with ADU-related work, at no cost to your community! We can:

- Help you create or update your ADU zoning;
- Create a comprehensive ADU permitting guide for residents;
- Conduct public engagement regarding ADUs;
- Create growth models that consider ADU development; and
- Be on-call to discuss or review zoning language.

Visit our website at www.srpedd.org/ADUs for more information or contact Taylor Perez at [email protected] if you are interested!

Happy ! 🚗 Throughout the SRPEDD region, our community members may rely on a variety of options to access healthy, affordable foods. 🥬 Across the region, local food pantries provide thousands of residents with an additional option when grocery prices, for many, have created a cost burden. These pantries provide residents with an essential service, and they help to make sure nobody goes hungry. 🙌

Today's post highlights four of the many incredible local food pantries across the SRPEDD region. Specifically, these four are accessible by public transit, making it easier for residents without a personal vehicle to still access food options. 🚌 Scroll through this post to learn more about the following locations:

📍Greater Fall River Community Food Pantry (Fall River, MA)
📍P.A.C.E. Inc. Food Pantry (New Bedford, MA)

Happy ! 🚗

This week, August 2-8, 2026, is National Stop on Red Week.🚦This national safety campaign helps to raise awareness to help prevent the devastating and preventable injuries caused by red-light running.

In 2024, red-light running crashes killed more than 1,100 people and injured more than 141,000 others. Nearly half of those killed were not the driver who ran the red light -- they were pedestrians, cyclists, and other innocent road users. 🚶‍➡️The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety reports that urban red-light crashes are among the most likely to cause crashes. 🚌

By choosing to stop today, we help protect tomorrow and move closer to a future where every journey ends safely! 🚲 To learn more facts about National Stop on Red Week 2026, scroll through this post, and visit the following website link for more information and resources on how to bring awareness to this campaign in your neighborhood: https://ncsrsafety.org/stop-on-red-week-2026/ 🏘️

Happy !🚗While summer is in full swing, now is the perfect time to be outdoors, explore your communities, support a local business, and see what your local farmers' market has available! 🍎

🥬Did you know? Many farmers' markets across the region include vendors that accept SNAP/HIP benefits, as well as others such as WIC! These programs can support access to healthy, local foods at an affordable cost. They also allow you to support local farmers, vendors, and businesses!

🚌Many of these sites are also accessible using public transit. Across the region, transit users can choose either the MBTA Commuter Rail or local bus routes (or both!) to access these farmers' markets! GATRA and SRTA both provide regional bus routes to many of these locations.

Scroll through this post to learn more about some of the farmers' markets available to you! Today's post highlights locations in New Bedford, North Attleborough, Taunton, and Fall River!
