Community Food Pantry of Sleepy Hollow/Tarrytown

Community Food Pantry of Sleepy Hollow/Tarrytown Community Food Pantry serves community residents who are food insecure. Volunteers are needed twice a month. There are opportunities for adults and young adults.

Contact volunteer coordinator Barbara Mahoney at [email protected]. We prepare for distribution on the 2nd Wednesday of the month from 7 to 8:30 PM, shelving and organizing foods. Young adults are welcome. Distributions are the 2nd Thursday of the month, from 8:15 to 10:30 AM and again from 6 PM to 7 PM. Volunteers work with clients and check in and as they select groceries. Adult volunteers onl

y work with clients. Spanish is helpful but not necessary. While the work does not necessarily involve heavy-lifting, it is quite active.

I did not come to the United States looking for charity. I came looking for opportunity—and I worked relentlessly to earn it.
I am originally from the country of Georgia in Eastern Europe. In 2008, when Russia invaded my homeland, my family lost everything. Like many immigrants, I did not leave because I wanted to, but because survival left me no choice. My dream was to serve my country as a politician and fight for Georgia’s independence. Instead, I became a refugee.

And to volunteers Vince, Dave, Patti, Gerard, Greg, Gregg, Jairo, Bill, and our Feeding Westchester driver, who all went above and beyond in making and receiving deliveries this week.

Tonight at the Warner Library, all residents of 10591 who are in need can register for ALL the local pantries in one evening. Bring photo ID for yourself and all in family — most of us give out more food for larger families.

Even though the government is moving toward reopening, here’s from an hour ago in NYT:

« The Trump administration on Monday said that it would return to the Supreme Court in yet another attempt to halt full federal funding for food stamps, signifying the latest twist in a winding saga that has imperiled the nation’s largest anti-hunger program. »
