We are excited to announce a new project in Deer Lakes Park, in partnership with Allegheny County Parks, to install a 3.5-acre wildflower meadow near the park office barn. The meadow will be planted next to the recently installed solar array, which will soon provide all the electricity needed to achieve the park's net zero energy goals. The new meadow will reduce stormwater runoff flows, provide critical pollinator habitat, and reduce the need to mow while enhancing the park's beauty. A huge thank you goes to the Alcoa Foundation for funding this project and to our partner on the project, Allegheny County. Some exciting news for DLP!
We will be hosting Trail Pittsburgh Steward training day this year, Sunday April 23. We have two big projects in mind for this event.
Rock armoring the wet part of Purple where it crosses the maintenance road and a reroute project on Orange that we have been looking at since last season.
More great things to come this season! We are excited about improving the trails for all to enjoy for years to come.
