The Tarboro Police Department is aware of recent gatherings of juveniles at Braswell Park and the surrounding area, referred to on social media as โ€œTeen Takeovers.โ€ This is not an issue unique to Tarboro. The โ€œTeen Takeoverโ€ trend has been seen in communities across the country and is often organized and spread through social media.

At this time, there have been no reported incidents of armed robbery or any weapons violations associated with these gatherings. We understand that posts circulating online have created concern but we ask the public to rely on verified information.

We have identified several juveniles involved in organizing and participating in these gatherings. During our response, officers have also encountered multiple juveniles engaged in disruptive and disorderly behavior.

Under North Carolina law, most individuals under the age of 18 are handled through the Juvenile Justice System. While that process looks different from the adult system, it does not mean the behavior is being ignored or that there are no consequences.
Our department is continuing to monitor these situations closely.

We are reviewing all available legal options when it comes to holding parents or guardians accountable when appropriate. Disruptive, unlawful, and/or dangerous behavior will not be tolerated, regardless of age. Our priority is the safety of our community, and we are committed to addressing these incidents proactively.

Please report all suspicious or criminal activity directly to law enforcement. We take these concerns seriously and remain committed to protecting our community and preventing this behavior from continuing. If you have information related to these gatherings please contact the Tarboro Police Department directly.
