On April 29th, 2024 the Tarboro Police Department responded to a report of shots fired at Pender Square Apartments late in the afternoon. Upon arrival, officers discovered a juvenile female with a gunshot wound to her leg and immediately provided assistance.
According to preliminary investigation findings, it was determined that the juvenile victim and another juvenile female were seated inside a vehicle at the time of the incident. The investigation indicates that the firearm was mishandled by the other juvenile female, resulting in an accidental discharge within the vehicle.

The injured juvenile was swiftly transported to ECU Hospital in Tarboro, NC, where she received initial medical attention. Subsequently, she was transferred to ECU Hospital in Greenville, NC, where she is currently receiving treatment for a non-life-threatening injury.
Additionally, the juveniles will be charged on a juvenile petition for possession of a handgun by a minor N.C.G.S. 14-269.7. The Tarboro Police Department is committed to holding individuals accountable for unlawful possession and use of fi****ms, especially when it endangers lives and safety.
The Tarboro Police is encouraging firearm owners to store their fi****ms in an area not accessible to minors. Proper storage of fi****ms can significantly reduce the risk of accidents, particularly involving children and adolescents.

Tarboro Police Department Responds to Incident of Shots Fired

Tarboro, NC - April 23, 2024 - At approximately 3:00 pm today, the Tarboro Police Department swiftly responded to reports of shots fired in the vicinity of Western Blvd. and Howard Ave.. Upon arrival, officers and detectives launched a preliminary investigation, revealing a concerning sequence of events.

It was determined that two vehicles converged at the 7 to 11 Mini Mart situated at 1706 W. Howard Ave. in Tarboro. Subsequently, occupants from both vehicles exited their vehicles, leading to a physical altercation. Shortly after, both parties re-entered their respective vehicles and departed the scene. As the vehicles were leaving the area gunshots were fired.

Later in the day, the Edgecombe County Sheriff's Office intercepted one of the vehicles in question traveling eastbound on Hwy 64, initiating a traffic stop. During the stop, officers discovered crucial evidence and impounded the vehicle for further examination. The driver, identified as Darius Dales, and a passenger, identified as Devonte Dales, were subsequently taken into custody and transported to the Tarboro Police Department for questioning.

As the investigation unfolds, the Tarboro Police Department has formally charged both Darius Dales and Devonte Dales. Darius Dales of Rocky Mount, North Carolina faces charges including 1 Count of Felony Conspiracy N.C.G.S. 14-2.4(A), and 1 Count of Accessory After the Fact N.C.G.S. 14-7. Similarly, Devante Dales also of Rocky Mount, North Carolina, has been charged with 1 Count of Felony Conspiracy N.C.G.S. 14-2.4(A), and 1 Count of Accessory After the Fact N.C.G.S. 14-7. Both individuals have been processed and are being held under a $50,000 secured bond pending their appearance in Edgecombe County District Court on Wednesday, April 24, 2024.

Fortunately, there were no reported injuries during the course of this incident. The Tarboro Police Department is actively seeking any information that may aid in furthering the investigation. Individuals with relevant details are urged to contact the Tarboro Police Department at 252-641-4247. All provided information will be treated with the utmost confidentiality.

Tarboro Police Department Responds to Disturbance at Braswell Center, Arrest Made
Tarboro, NC - April 15, 2024

The Tarboro Police Department swiftly responded to a disturbance reported at the Braswell Center, located at 1501 Western Blvd. in Tarboro, NC. Upon arriving on scene, officers observed a vehicle matching the reported description of suspected individuals involved exiting the parking lot. A traffic stop was promptly initiated on Western Blvd. near Howard Ave.

During the traffic stop, one suspect, identified as Damon Winstead of 79 Delilah Lane, Tarboro, NC, attempted to flee from the vehicle. However, law enforcement personnel successfully apprehended Winstead without any further incident.

At the conclusion of the investigation, Damon Winstead was charged as follows:

• Carrying Concealed Gun (N.C.G.S. 14-269(A))

• Injury to Personal Property (N.C.G.S. 14-269(A))

• Possession of Ma*****na (N.C.G.S. 90-95(D)(4))

• Resist, Obstruct, and Delay (N.C.G.S. 14-223)
Winstead has been placed under a $20,000 secured bond. He is scheduled to appear in Edgecombe County District Court on May 8, 2024, at 9:00 a.m.
