We would like to wish our Chief, James Bowen, a very Happy Birthday! We are blessed to have someone as dedicated as you running our department. We are thankful for all that you do for our department and in training other departments with the classes that you teach. We wouldn’t be where we are today as a station if it wasn’t for you. We hope you have a wonderful relaxing day.

Statewide burn is still in full effect! This affects all 100 counties. Please be mindful that these burn bans are for the safety of everyone.

03/28/2026

Due to increased wildfire risk, the N.C. Forest Service has issued a ban on all open burning and has canceled all burning permits statewide effective 6 p.m. Saturday, March 28 until further notice.

Under North Carolina law, the ban prohibits all open burning in the affected counties, regardless of whether a permit was previously issued. The issuance of any new permits has also been suspended until the ban is lifted. Anyone violating the burn ban faces a $100 fine plus $183 court costs. Any person responsible for setting a fire may be liable for any expenses related to extinguishing the fire.

The burn ban does not apply to fires started within 100 feet of an occupied dwelling. The local fire marshal has authority to issue a burn ban within those 100 feet.

We at Heartsease would like to thank one of the citizens of our district, Greg Padgett, for taking his time to clear our parking lot after the recent snow storm. We are beyond thankful and appreciate your time and effort!

With the winter storm approaching we wanted to remind the community to please be safe. We highly advise everyone to stay home and off the roads if possible. If you must travel please be mindful of road conditions and other drivers. Reduce your speed and watch for any possible road hazards.

There is an immediate tow enforcement in place. If you happen to break down you will be towed. This is to provide safe roads for crews salting and plowing the roads as well as prevent further road hazards during the upcoming storm.

Stay warm and stay safe!

Friday night Heartsease Volunteer Fire Department hosted its annual Christmas Party for its members. Everyone looked amazing, the food was delicious, we had so many laughs, and the decorations were beautiful!

Gunner West received the Most Improved Award. Gunner had grown so much this year and is becoming an amazing young man and firefighter. He is currently just one class away from Certification!

TeAnne Parker won the Firefighter of the Year Award as she pushed with 7 kids and a job, to get her firefighter certification this year.

We are aware of a current issue with a past member that has recently surfaced on Facebook.

We have received several messages on this matter and would like to reassure the community and those concerned that he is not a member of our station and has not had any affiliation with us for over 5 years.

Thank you.
