Essex County Sheriff, W.A. "Arnie" Holmes reports that on 8-23-2023 at approximately 8:00pm his office was notified by a parent of an Essex County Public Schools student that their child had received a threatening text message from an unknown number. The threat was directed at the child as well as the High School. Through modern investigative techniques the owners of the phone were located. With the help from the Stafford County Sheriff's Office we were able to identify two juvenile offenders and obtained petitions for both. Both juveniles were taken into custody by the Stafford County Sheriff's Office and custody was transferred to the Essex County Sheriff's Office. A detention hearing was held on Friday, 8-25-2023, One juvenile was released to the custody of the parents with numerous court ordered stipulations, the other was ordered to be held at a juvenile detention facility until a future hearing date. This investigation is still ongoing. Anyone that has any information about this is asked to please contact Investigator Travis Martin, 804-443-3347.

On July 18, 2023 at approximately 12:30PM a white Ford Ranger pulled into the parking lot of Angel Visit Church in Ozena. The truck circled the parking lot stopping at the entrance of the church where a male exited the vehicle and stole a Stihl w**d eater from the lawn care company who was cutting grass on the other side of the church and out of site. Essex County Sheriff’s Office activity report for May.

On May 17, 2023 students from Aylett Country Day School completed the D.A.R.E. (Drug Abuse Resistance Education) program taught by the Essex Sheriff's Office. The students completed a 10 lesson program witch focused on Drug, Alcohol and To***co use prevention. The program also included ways to stay safe and prevent bullying, decision making and ways to evaluate that decision. Pictured with the students is Sheriff Holmes and Investigator Martin.
