The countdown is on...

24 hours until the Class of 2026 will walk across the stage and turn years of memories, hard work, friendships, and growth into one moment. It’s hard to believe this chapter is already coming to a close.

We are so proud of this class and all they’ve accomplished, and we can’t wait to celebrate them tomorrow.

🎓💜💛 Senior Spotlight: Jamie Segar 💛💜🎓

Last for our senior spotlights this year, but certainly not least, please join us in celebrating Jamie as he prepares for his next chapter after graduation! Jamie plans to attend Hampton University, where he will major in Journalism/Mass Communications with a minor in Psychology as he works toward becoming a voice for change in his community and beyond. 📰

Jamie has been accepted to more than 15 colleges and universities, including the University of Virginia, Morehouse College, Coastal Carolina University, Norfolk State University, Old Dominion University, Longwood University, Christopher Newport University, and Morgan State University. 📚

He has participated in golf and baseball, earned All-Academic Team honors for four consecutive years, and made a lasting impact in band. He served as Head Drum Major of the EHS Marching Band for two consecutive years and being selected to the Northern Neck Middle Peninsula Honors Band twice.

Jamie also serves as Student Council Association President, has been involved in numerous school activities, will graduate in the Top 5 of his class, and will earn his associate degree while still in high school. His future plans also include attending law school as he continues pursuing leadership, advocacy, and service.

Jamie has earned multiple scholarships, including the Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. Virginia Northern Neck Alumnae Chapter Scholarship, The Boogie’s Blessing Scholarship, the Regina Blagmon Memorial Scholarship, and The Determined 2 Win Scholarship, among others. ✨

In Jamie’s words, inspired by Barack Obama: “We are the ones we’ve been waiting for. We are the change that we seek.” Jamie’s goal is to be a change agent for his community and his generation. He would also like to give a special shoutout to God, his family, friends, and loved ones for guiding and supporting him throughout his journey.

🎓💜💛 Senior Spotlight: Danayshia “Nay” Johnson 💛💜🎓

Join us in celebrating Danayshia as she prepares for her next chapter after graduation! Nay plans to begin her college journey at Rappahannock Community College, where she will study Nurse Aide/Geriatric care as she works toward her goal of becoming a registered nurse. 🩺

Danayshia has been accepted to both Rappahannock Community College and Richard Bland College. Her plan is to attend RCC for two years before transferring to Richard Bland to continue her education and move closer to achieving her dream of becoming an RN. 📚

During her time at Essex, Nay has stayed actively involved in school activities as a member of the National Honor Tech Society, Student Council Association, and Color Guard.

Nay has also been awarded a scholarship through the RCC Education Foundation, helping support her next steps toward a future in healthcare.

We are so proud of you, Nay, and can’t wait to see all that you accomplish! 💜💛✨

🎓💜💛 Senior Spotlight: Gabrielle “Gabbi” Few 💛💜🎓

Join us in celebrating Gabbi as she prepares for her next chapter after graduation! Gabbi plans to attend Virginia Commonwealth University, where she will study Pre-Radiation as she works toward her goal of becoming a mammographer and making an impact in the healthcare field. 🩺

Gabbi has been accepted to an impressive 18 colleges and universities, including Christopher Newport University, Norfolk State University, Old Dominion University, Virginia State University, George Mason University, North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University, James Madison University, Morgan State University, and University of Mary Washington.

While in college, Gabbi plans to continue her passion for stomp and shake cheerleading while pursuing her studies in radiology. 🩻

Gabbi was on the cheer team for four years, Varsity Cheer Captain, member of the ECA, and she will also graduate with her associate degree!

We are so proud of you, Gabbi, and can’t wait to see all that you accomplish! 💜💛

Please join us in congratulating Teagan Beck, who has been selected as Essex High School’s Student Liaison to the School Board for the 2026–2027 academic year.

In this role, Teagan will represent the student body by sharing student perspectives with the school board, including what is working well at EHS, identifying areas for growth, and helping ensure student voices are heard.

We are excited to see Teagan represent Essex High and our students in this role. Congratulations! 💜💛

🎓💜💛 Senior Spotlight: Morgan “Mo” Self 💛💜🎓

Join us in celebrating Morgan as she prepares for her next chapter after graduation! She plans to attend University of Mary Washington, where she will major in Social Justice with the goal of making a difference in her community through leadership, service, and advocacy. 📚

Morgan has been accepted to an impressive list of colleges and universities, including Bridgewater College, Eastern Mennonite University, George Mason University, Hollins University, Mary Baldwin University, Norfolk State University, Old Dominion University, Randolph College, University of Lynchburg, University of Mary Washington, and Virginia Wesleyan University.

Driven by a passion for justice and service, Morgan’s long-term goal is to become a police officer and serve as an officer in the military, helping protect and support others while standing for leadership and integrity. ✨

Morgan has also built an incredible athletic legacy at Essex as a multi-sport athlete in softball, basketball, and volleyball. On the basketball court, she earned Player of the Year honors, was named First Team All-District for three consecutive years, First Team All-Region, Regional Player of the Year, Second Team All-State, First Team All-State, and scored over 1,000 career points. 🔥 In softball, she was also named First Team All-District First Baseman for two consecutive years. 🥎

Join us in celebrating Danny as he prepares for his next chapter after graduation! Danny plans to attend trade school, where he is exploring paths in welding, carpentry, or CNC machining as he builds a strong foundation for his future. 🔨

Beyond the trades, Danny has big dreams of pursuing an amateur boxing career and one day stepping into the professional ring with his sights set on becoming the Heavyweight Champion of the World. 🥊🏆

Ending Teacher Appreciation Week with one last thank you to everyone who helped make Friday special for our staff!!

Thank you to Segar’s for an amazing lunch, Food Lion and Preston McKinney for our thank you bags and extra food, and to the Women’s Club of Essex County for donating school supplies for our teachers. Your kindness and support mean so much to our staff!!

Also, a huge thank you to our Sunshine Committee: Ms. Shelton, Ms. Kellar, Ms. Clarke, and Ms. Gillis, along with our Associate Principal, Mr. Scott, for all the work behind the scenes to make this week come together.

We’re lucky to have a community that shows up for our teachers again and again.💜💛
