Jack de Taos

Jack de Taos “Jack the B***o” was sculpted by Frank Seckler of zogdesign.com in Taos, New Mexico after being commissioned by El Dorado Plaza in Taos, New Mexico in 2011.

The word b***o is derived from the Spanish word “borrico”, meaning donkey. Each outpost in the Spanish Empire utilized b***os such as Jack for pack transport, hauling wood, and pulling carts. B***os were often piled high with loads of corn shucks for fodder, wood from the mountains, or balanced with casks of a locally produced whiskey called “Taos Lightning.” The sculpture is dedicated to the beasts of burden who honorably served the people of Taos and Northern New Mexico for many centuries.
