The New Mexico Film Office is taking center stage today at the 79th Festival de Cannes, solidifying the state’s status as an international cinematic powerhouse. Officially celebrating “New Mexico Day” at the Cannes Marché du Film on May 14, 2026, state film representatives are showcasing a booming $3 billion multi-decade screen economy to the world’s top directors, studios, and producers.The global spotlight comes with massive competitive recognition. New Mexico has been announced as a double finalist for the prestigious 2026 Global Production Awards, presented by Screen International.
The state is a top contender for the coveted Film Commission of the Year (State, Province & National) honor. In a true David vs. Goliath narrative, New Mexico is battling traditional industry titans including California, Australia, and New Zealand.
Additionally, New Mexico is a global finalist for the Diversity, Equity & Inclusion Award. This nomination recognizes the state’s groundbreaking “Rooted Representation” strategy. The initiative focuses on sustainable career pathways for local crews and culturally authentic storytelling, best exemplified by the acclaimed New Mexico-produced AMC series Dark Winds.
