📰 Weekly Roundup: Highlights You Shouldn't Miss!
It was another busy week both here in the 115th District and in Harrisburg.
On Sunday, I had the pleasure of attending the Eagle Scout Court of Honor for Chase Lentz of Troop 300. Congratulations to Chase on earning Scouting's highest rank and for his dedication to leadership and service.
Monday, in Harrisburg, my bill, HB 1611, the Older Adult Protective Services Act, was voted out of the House Aging & Older Adult Services Committee with bipartisan support. This legislation strengthens protections for older Pennsylvanians and is an important step forward in the legislative process.
On Tuesday, Danielle from my office attended a PPL public meeting regarding a proposed data center project in neighboring Tobyhanna Township. While the project is not located in the 115th District, it could have impacts throughout our region. PPL indicated that proposed transmission line upgrades are being driven by the project's power needs. No formal application has been submitted and no approvals have been granted at this time, but I will continue monitoring developments and keeping residents informed.
The House also passed several bills to help everyday Pennsylvanians:
• HB 1678 – Makes large digital advertising companies pay their fair share, with revenue dedicated to preventing property tax increases for older homeowners.
• HB 2109 ("Golden Girls Law") – Expands housing options by preventing arbitrary limits on unrelated adults living together, helping more people afford to stay in their communities.
• HB 2550 – Supports workers and small businesses by providing a tax credit for small business owners who contribute to employees' health insurance premiums through Pennie.
• HB 836 – Protects access to fertility treatments for Pennsylvania families.
Finally, I was pleased to welcome our newest Legislative Fellow, Joel Smith, a Political Science student at Dickinson College. Over the next two months, Joel will gain firsthand experience with the legislative process, conduct policy research, and help develop legislation as part of the fellowship program.
Thank you for the opportunity to serve the people of the 115th District. As always, my office is here to help.
