Alternative Sentencing is an alternative to the formal court process for cases deemed appropriate for referral by the courts or police and our office. It is based on the concept of making the offender accountable for his/her actions. As such, individuals must take ownership for their actions in order to participate. Participants meet with our office staff to develop an individualized Plan of Accountability, designed to be completed within 90 days. The plans will include weekly supervision, community service, and educational elements that address their offense. Contracts may contain additional components based on the charge and circumstances surrounding the incident, by referral of the prosecutor and/or request of the victim. Program focuses on individuals ages 15-25 years old. Please call in regard to referring older or younger individuals. Cost $250.
*FACE TO FACE INTAKES ARE REQUIRED
Challenge Most often used as an educational component of alternative sentencing program involving substances, but also open to stand alone referrals. Challenge is an 8 hour course concentrating on the full spectrum of adolescent development including substance abuse, sexuality, legal issues, healthy communication, family and community issues. The program synthesizes various teaching methods to target participant’s issues and problems, all in a supportive but challenging environment. The emphasis is on making better life choices. The class is facilitated by a licensed therapist/LADAC and our office case manager, both certified instructors. Class is focused on individuals ages 15-17. Cost is included in the Alternative sentencing fee. The fee for individuals participating in the class alone is $150
Substances and Solutions is an adult parallel to our youth Challenge Program. This 8 hour class focuses on decision making around substance related issues and charges. Its target audience is ages 18-25. The program is used as part of our adult alternative sentencing but accepts stand alone and non-judicial referrals as well. This program is facilitated by a Master LADAC partnered with a Licensed Clinical Social Worker. The class price is included in the Alternative Sentencing fee or is $150 for referrals to the class alone.
Household Mediation is a voluntary and confidential process in which neutral parties assist disputing parties in developing mutually agreeable solutions to resolve their conflicts. The program is appropriate for families who are having communication problems. This includes families split or joined by divorce or remarriage. It can promote positive change in the way family members interact with one another. Families can be referred by: schools, churches, physicians, human service agencies, courts, police, or call on their own. Mediators are not counselors. They are trained facilitators who act as a neutral third party to help family members work out their own issues and make their own agreements.
Mediations done at our office are at a rate of $45 per hour, with additional fees ($60/hr) for off- site work. Cases requiring intake have an additional fee of $25 for each intake.
Also available through our office are: Community Mediation focuses on disputes between neighbors, coworkers, and other inter-personal disputes. Small Claims Mediation, Civil Writ and Elders Mediation
