🚨 Neighbor Dispute Leads to Attempted Murder Charges 🚨

A verbal argument between neighbors escalated into gunfire, leaving one man wounded and another facing attempted murder charges.

Michael Kopel is accused of firing 13 rounds at his neighbor after the two were in a shouting match. When the victim began walking toward him from his own yard, Kopel opened fire. Video captured the entire incident.

Kopel then left the scene and called 911, telling dispatchers he shot his neighbor in self-defense. His statements to police did not match video evidence.

He appeared in court today for a status hearing ahead of his February trial.

Kopel is charged with:

🔴 Attempted second-degree murder with great bodily harm
🔴 Aggravated battery with great bodily harm
🔴 Discharging a fi***rm in public or on residential property

Twenty-five years later, we remember.

Today, State Attorney Suzy Lopez joined our community at Tampa Fire Rescue’s 9/11 remembrance ceremony and Mission BBQ’s annual tribute to honor the nearly 3,000 lives lost on September 11, 2001.

We remember the people who never made it home and the first responders who ran toward danger when others were running away. We remain grateful for the men and women who continue to answer that call every single day.

We will always honor those we lost by remembering how Americans stood together. And we will never forget.

🔴Three Teenagers Held on No Bond in Attempted Murder of Homeless Man🔴

Corliss Sirmons, 14, and Javonnie Council, 16, appeared in court for a pretrial detention hearing this week where a judge denied bond because they remain a danger to the community. Samari Bryant, 13, is also currently held on no bond. His pretrial detention hearing will occur at a later date due to his attorneys raising competency.

The teens are accused of beating a 64-year-old homeless man outside the Walgreens located at 3917 N. Nebraska Avenue. Police found the victim lying on the ground with cuts to his face, significant swelling, and a crooked nose. The victim was admitted to the hospital for a traumatic brain injury, broken ribs, and severe injuries all over his body. He was unable to tell police about what happened due to having a medically necessary ventilator following the beating.

While charging juveniles as adults is one of the most serious decisions our prosecutors make, it is our job to protect the community, stand up for victims, and seek justice.

Some moments remind us exactly what it means to stand together.

This week, Sheriff Chad Chronister and the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office honored Deputies Sopharmony Muon and Colton Daniels for their courage and resilience, and recognized the Tampa General Hospital professionals who helped save their lives.

More than 55 TGH team members received the HCSO Move the Needle Award for the critical role they played that day. Doctors, nurses, trauma teams, TGH Aeromed, security and so many others worked together when every second mattered. Their skill and determination helped both deputies return home within days.

Sergeant Harrison Bashner was also awarded HCSO's Medal of Honor for his extraordinary bravery in taking down the man who fired at the deputies. His actions that day helped make the deputies’ lifesaving care possible.

State Attorney Suzy Lopez, Chief Assistant State Attorney John Terry and Assistant State Attorney Sheri Maxim were honored to attend the ceremony alongside TGH President and CEO John Couris, the deputies, their families and the many people who helped save their lives.

The State Attorney’s Office stands alongside our law enforcement partners every day. We see firsthand the risks they take to protect this community, and we are deeply grateful to the medical professionals who were there to fight for them when they needed it most. Thank you all.

🔴No Bond for Man Accused of Lewd or Lascivious Molestation (Victim less than 12)🔴

Daniel Rosalez will remain behind bars until trial after the state argued that he remains a danger to the community. Rosalez is accused of lewd or lascivious molestation of a victim under the age of 12. He admitted to his actions.

Protecting children is one of our most important responsibilities. When a child is victimized, we take these cases seriously and work to make sure the victim and their family have a voice throughout the process. Our job is to pursue justice and hold those accused of these serious crimes accountable. Chief of SVU Christine Boulos is prosecuting this case.

🚨 Man Pleads Guilty in Riverview Stabbing Death 🚨

Arnaldo Cintron, 43, pleaded guilty today to the stabbing death of a woman in her own home. He admitted responsibility for the killing and for helping dispose of her body with the victim’s cousin, Giselle Santiago Bonilla.

Cintron was sentenced to 45 years in prison, followed by 10 years of probation.

The case began in August 2025, when the victim’s boyfriend reported the crime to the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office. He told deputies that Cintron threatened to kill him if he did not help dispose of the victim’s body.

The boyfriend later led deputies to the victim’s body, which had been left in the mangroves at Weedon Island.

Deputies arrested Cintron, Santiago Bonilla, and Andre Gerhardt, who also assisted in disposing of the victim’s body.

Santiago Bonilla and Gerhardt are both scheduled to return to court this week. Assistant State Attorney Chinwe Fossett successfully prosecuted the case.

🚨 HELD ON NO BOND 🚨

Roszelle Redding is behind bars without bond following a violent attack in Tampa.

Redding is accused of ra**ng a woman inside an abandoned home in early August and then setting fire to her clothes to destroy evidence, causing the house to go up in flames.

The victim sought medical care at a hospital, leading police to track down Redding using surveillance video and investigative methods.

In court, our attorneys successfully argued that Redding represents a clear danger to the community and must remain held without bond until trial. An arraignment date has not yet been set.
