Who *nose* that it's Gronk's birthday? 🎂 Stop by to say "hi" and wish this Greater One-Horned Rhino an even greater birthday!

It seems like just yesterday we were welcoming the arrival of baby Gronk, but in reality, six years have flown by! At six years old, Gronk has long since stopped relying on the care of his dedicated mom, Jaime.

Greater One-Horned Rhinos are mostly solitary, but can be seen with each other in mating pairs or females with calves. Through the Greater One-Horned Rhino Species Survival Plan, we work with other AZA facilities to aid in the conservation of this amazing animal.

What a week! Thank you to everyone who joined us at this year's Behavior Workshop, Teaching Animals with Science and Empathy (TASE) with Precision Behavior, alongside our friends at the Humane Society of Tampa Bay (HSTB) and the Halifax Humane Society, Inc.

After a week of hands-on learning at HSTB and ZooTampa, attendees got to pass on their knowledge to volunteers at HSTB. This morning, we worked directly with the dogs and volunteers to help encourage a continuation of learning for kennel manners, leash walking, and name recognition. By utilizing the skills gained from the workshop, we are hopeful that these dogs are well prepared for their fur-ever homes.

At ZooTampa, participants also worked closely with the animals in our care. No matter the species, animals benefit immensely through learning, whether it be for voluntary medical behaviors, shifting inside and out, or flying from place to place! Throughout the week, attendees also worked around the Zoo, helping to solidify and improve upon behaviors.

Last week, we were honored to host the first-ever Manatee Husbandry Workshop, organized through the Manatee Rescue & Rehabilitation Partnership (MRP) Working Group!

Protecting and conserving manatees is no small task, and it takes quite a village to make it possible. This workshop gave us a unique opportunity to come together, share our knowledge, and learn from more than 40 participants from 18 different facilities.

We're passionate about pollinators! 🦋🐝

During your visit to the Zoo, keep an eye out for native wildlife enjoying the Zoo alongside you! Bugs and butterflies, like the gulf fritillary you see here, find homes in the landscaping and natural environments around the grounds.

Gulf fritillaries are common throughout the Southeastern United States and readily adapt to forests, grassy areas, roadside gardens, and other habitats. Most importantly, these butterflies rely on passionflower vines to complete their life cycle.

We're kicking off this year's Behavior Workshop, Teaching Animals with Science and Empathy (TASE) with Precision Behavior, alongside our friends at the Humane Society of Tampa Bay (HSTB) and the Halifax Humane Society, Inc.

Participants will enjoy a week jam-packed with unique, hands-on learning experiences! Drawing on their knowledge of animal behavior, participants will build on those skills by working directly with adoptable pets at HSTB and with animals at ZooTampa. We're honored to work with HSTB and help prepare adoptable pets for their forever homes.

It truly takes an International Village to protect manatees!

We are honored to bring people together to learn more about their conservation, whether it be professionals at the MRP Manatee Husbandry Workshop, organized through the Manatee Rescue & Rehabilitation Partnership (MRP) Husbandry Working Group, or through connecting with those who visit the Zoo. This International Manatee Day, one of the best ways you can help protect these animals is through awareness and advocating for natural spaces. Whether it be sharing conservation information with friends and family, using your power to vote in favor of wild spaces, or however you participate, you are making a world of difference for the iconic manatee.
