Maniscalco by supporting the Benedict S. Legacy Fund that carries his vision forward. We Provide Access to Life-saving Care For Those That Can Not Afford it! Each year in developing countries around the world an estimated 2-3 million people die because they cannot afford a pacemaker surgery. Our commitment is to raise funds and coordinate with medical teams around the world to help provide the surgery and medical care that will save their lives.

📅 Milestones: 1992

In 1992, Dr. Benedict S. Maniscalco brought Heartbeat International home to Tampa.🏥
He went on to lead it as chairman for more than 20 years, as a single pacemaker bank grew into a global network of Heart Centers and volunteer physicians. 🌎

Today that work has reached more than 18,000 lives in more than 20 countries, and it lives on as ForHearts Worldwide and our Pacemaker Club community. ❤️

The Benedict S. Maniscalco, M.D. Legacy Fund brings his care home again, supporting a new patient care initiative for uninsured and underinsured cardiovascular patients in the Tampa Bay community, under program guidelines established in partnership with BayCare Foundation.

🌳 Why Hippocrates?

More than 2,000 years ago on the Greek island of Kos, Hippocrates taught his students beneath a Plane tree. His name became linked to one of medicine's most lasting traditions: the Hippocratic Oath, and its promise to put the patient first. 🩺

Today, a rare grafted seedling of that Kos Plane tree has taken root at BayCare's Academic Health and Research Corridor in Tampa, where the next generation of physicians is learning. On Oct. 29 it will be joined by a statue of Hippocrates, dedicated in memory of Dr. Benedict S. Maniscalco. 🏛️

These were not simply ideals Dr. Maniscalco admired. They were values he lived. ❤️

The statue will represent those ideals. The Benedict S. Maniscalco, M.D. Legacy Fund will put them into action, supporting a new patient care initiative for uninsured and underinsured cardiovascular patients in the Tampa Bay community, under program guidelines established in partnership with BayCare Foundation.

🏥 In 1987, Dr. Benedict S. Maniscalco founded the St. Joseph's Heart Institute, Florida's first comprehensive cardiovascular center.

His vision was to bring patient care, research, education, and innovation together under one roof, right here in Tampa. He led the Institute as its director until 1997, working alongside colleagues like Dr. Henry McIntosh, who would later bring Heartbeat International, now ForHearts Worldwide, to the Institute.

🌳 Today, a Kos Plane tree is rooted on the St. Joseph's Hospital campus, recalling the tradition that Hippocrates taught beneath a Plane tree on Kos. On Oct. 29, a statue of Hippocrates will be dedicated in Dr. Maniscalco's memory.
