USF CERT

USF CERT CERT volunteers are also encouraged to support emergency response agencies by taking an active role in emergency preparedness projects.

USF's Community Emergency Response Team is a volunteer organization dedicated to promoting, training, and providing education on emergency preparedness within the University of South Florida and its surrounding communities. The USF Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) educates individuals about disaster preparedness for hazards that may impact their area and trains them in basic disaster respo

nse skills, such as fire safety, light search and rescue, team organization, and disaster medical operations. Using training learned in the classroom and during exercises, CERT volunteers can assist others in their community following a disaster when professional responders are not immediately available to help. USF CERT may be activated during disasters to support Hillsborough County agencies in multiple roles, including volunteer management, evacuation support and management, damage assessment, resource distribution, and any other duties as needed.

🩸 Stop the Bleed Training Recap 🩸

This month, USF CERT and USF SCOPE hosted a Stop the Bleed training, where participants learned simple, hands-on skills to control severe bleeding and help save a life.

With severe bleeding becoming life-threatening in as little as 3–5 minutes, knowing how to respond before first responders arrive can make all the difference. During the session, attendees practiced lifesaving techniques like applying pressure, packing wounds, and using tourniquets.

Thank you to everyone who joined us and took the time to learn how to be the help before help arrives. Your willingness to step up and learn these skills helps make our community stronger and more prepared.
