We’re proud to see REACHUP’s work highlighted by Spectrum Bay News 9 during Black Maternal Health Week 💟

This story looks at how the Black maternal health crisis is rooted in generations of inequity, and the solutions needed to change outcomes for families today.

In the segment, our President & CEO Nicola Bailey shares our mission to eliminate preventable maternal and infant deaths, while our GROWTH Doula and MamaCareRising programs are recognized as part of the solution, providing critical support from pregnancy through postpartum care.

While the focus during Black Maternal Health Week is on the path forward, birthing experts say this health crisis dates back hundreds of years.

We were honored to be part of today’s press conference following the passage of the Preventing Maternal Deaths Reauthorization Act.

Thank you Congresswoman U.S. Rep. Kathy Castor, Tampa General Hospital, and USF Health Morsani College of Medicine for being committed to improving maternal health outcomes.

Beyond the moments we share, there’s so much happening behind the scenes. Here’s a glimpse:

📣 Our team represented REACHUP at the 112th Progressive Missionary and Educational Baptist State Convention of Florida, where we were honored with a financial gift recognizing our work to reduce maternal and infant mortality in Hillsborough County.

💻 Our MamaCareRising staff participated in the Annual Conference on Reducing Severe Maternal Morbidity Through Telehealth at the TGH-USF Public Health Development Institute.

📚 Our GROWTH Doula team strengthened their skills during a two-day in-house training focused on both theory and practice.

🙋 Our Outreach team stayed active in the community, participating in events like the Hope for Tampa Community Fair and the Healthy Living Program Community Health Fair.

Excited for everything April will bring 🌱.

April is Child Abuse Prevention Month and today we honored to join Children's Board of Hillsborough County in their annual event to raise awareness and supporting families across our community.

The blue pinwheels represent hope, and a reminder that every child deserves a safe and healthy childhood 💙.

At REACHUP, we’ve also created a small display in our lobby to reflect that message and help keep the conversation going.

After 8 kids, Sheila thought she knew it all. Then a c-section changed everything.

Sheila’s story is one of growth, of realizing when something isn’t working, and having the courage to seek support.

We had the opportunity to recognize her during a Community Consortium, after she also shared her testimony at St. Matthew Missionary Baptist Church.

At the 17th Annual MCHSO symposium, our GROWTH Doula Manager, Ankita Patel, shared how this transformation is physical, emotional, and deeply personal.

Doulas understand that shift, and they remind clients to give themselves grace.
