🌀 National Preparedness Month: Day 6️⃣

We’re continuing with Making a Plan, and an important part of that plan is knowing your evacuation zone.

Do you live in a hurricane evacuation zone or in a home that may not be safe during a hurricane? If so, think now about where you would go and how you would get there if you’re told to evacuate.

Remember, you don’t need to travel hundreds of miles to get to safety. Often, evacuating tens of miles (or even just a few miles) can get you out of an evacuation zone and into a safer location.

Let’s talk about Making a Plan.

When an emergency happens, everyone in your household should know what to do, where to go and who to contact.

The City of Tampa Hurricane Preparedness Guide includes a simple Family Communication Plan where you can write down important phone numbers, emergency contacts, meeting locations and other information your family may need. Fill it out together, keep it somewhere easy to find and make sure everyone knows the plan.

Planning ahead means fewer decisions to make when every second counts.

National Preparedness Month: Day 4️⃣

Getting prepared for Hurricane Season can seem intimidating, especially if you don’t know where to start.

Don’t panic! We can help you prepare during the blue skies so that you’re ready for those gray skies.

Start with the guide. It breaks down what to do before, during, and after a storm threatens the area.

Heads up, Tampa!

Beginning tonight, September 3, in collaboration Hillsborough County, Pasco County Mosquito Management will be performing specialized aerial mosquito control in Wellswood, Riverside Heights, and East Tampa.

Protect yourself and your community from mosquitoes with the 3 Ds:
- Dress in light colored, long-sleeved clothing with closed-toed shoes
- Defend using an insect repellent
- Dump or cover standing water

City of Tampa residents: Beat the Heat... advisories, with Tampa Parks & Recreation pools and splash pads!

🆒 Beginning today, August 19, residents can visit any of Tampa’s seven open public pools free of charge during Open Swim hours only on days when a heat advisory is issued. The seven are Bobby Hicks, Copeland, Cyrus Greene, Danny Del Rio, Interbay, Loretta Ingraham, and Roy Jenkins. 🏊‍♂️ Visit tampa.gov/pools for the hours/locations for each pool. … The city’s nine splash pads already are free to the public and provide another way to cool off. Hours/locations available at tampa.gov/splashpads. 😎

East Tampa showed up and got prepared! 💪🏽

We’re grateful to everyone who joined us for our hands-on Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) training in East Tampa!

Over three days, community members learned and practiced skills that can help them protect themselves, their families and their neighbors during an emergency. From basic first aid and fire safety to search and rescue, these residents are now better prepared to step up when their community needs them most.

Thank you to everyone who gave their time to learn, train and help make Tampa more prepared and resilient.
