Please read our official statement.

The members of the East End Fire Company would like to sincerely thank the Tamaqua community for its continued support over the years. Your trust, encouragement, and presence at our events have meant more than words can fully express. Serving this community has never been just a duty, it has been a commitment we have taken seriously and with pride.

We are deeply disappointed by the Borough Council’s recent decision to suspend operations and pursue decertification under what has been described as “emergency” circumstances. We believe this action does not fully reflect the complexities of volunteer response challenges, including staffing limitations, call timing, and operational coordination.

While concerns regarding response rates have been cited, we feel that the narrative presented does not account for key contributing factors that impact volunteer availability and turnout. These are issues faced not only locally, but across volunteer fire services nationwide.

We also recognize that questions were raised during the meeting that deserve thoughtful and transparent answers. Unfortunately, the process moved forward without a full and open discussion of these concerns.

Despite this outcome, we remain proud of our members and the service they have provided. We stand by the dedication and effort shown by our volunteers, many of whom have balanced careers, families, and emergency response responsibilities.

Our priority has always been, and will continue to be, the safety and well-being of the Tamaqua community. We encourage continued dialogue that is constructive, transparent, and centered on solutions rather than conclusions reached without full consideration.

We are not walking away from this community, and we are not giving up. The challenges facing volunteer fire service are real but so is our commitment to the people we have served for years. Decisions made in a meeting do not erase the time, sacrifice and dedication of our members. We will continue to stand together, support one another and advocate for a fair and honest path forward. The story of this company is not over, and neither is our willingness to fight for the role we have proudly held within this community.

We thank the residents of Tamaqua for their support and remain committed to advocating for a fair and accurate understanding of the role and challenges of volunteer fire service.

Now is the moment when community support matters the most, this decision affects the entire community.
We ask you to come stand by us Tuesday April 21, 2026 at 7 PM at the Tamaqua Borough council meeting.

We hope to see everyone at this meeting.
