Last summer, 6-year-old Joey Sorg witnessed a major police event at his next-door neighbor’s house. According to his father, Joey would become terrified and cry any time he heard a siren, following the event. His father attempted to put an end to Joey’s fears, but was unsuccessful. Word got around in their small community and Oldham County Police Officer, Robert Lane, caught wind of it. He knew he couldn’t let the little boy live in fear of Law Enforcement so he took action.

He visited Joey’s home shortly after and remembers the boy being very scared and running at the sight of his car. After Joey calmed down, Officer Lane let him sit in the squad car with him. Joey was able to try out the lights and sirens and ask Officer Lane many questions. Officer Lane reminded Joey that police aren’t bad and they are there to help.

Joey quickly changed his opinion about the police and opted to dress as one for Halloween. When asked what he wanted to be when he grows up, he even said, “a police officer.”

Great work Officer Lane! Sometimes the smallest assignments can make the biggest impacts.
