Despite the drizzle this morning, the Meskwaki community, teachers, students, coaches and teammates gathered to cheer on Meskwaki High School freshman Bree Scabbyrobe as she heads to the Iowa High School State Cross Country Championships in Fort Dodge!

Bree has made school history as only the second runner ever from Meskwaki Settlement School to qualify for the State Championships. She earned her spot at last week’s Class 1A District 7 meet in Jewell, finishing 10th overall with a time of 20:59.4 to claim the final qualifying position.

πŸŽƒπŸ‘» Halloween Fun Around the Settlement! πŸ‘»πŸŽƒ

Today, the Meskwaki Settlement School held its annual Trick-or-Treat Parade, bringing festive joy and plenty of candy to the community! The students made their way around the Settlement, stopping by several locations including the Health Clinic, Recreation Center, Public Works, Tribal Center, Senior Services, and the Meskwaki Bingo Casino Hotel.

Every stop was filled with smiles, laughter, and excitement as staff and community members greeted the children in their creative costumes. One of the highlights of the day was seeing the elders light up with joy as they handed out treats, shared hugs, and admired the parade of little ghosts, superheroes, and princesses passing through.

Events like this remind us how special our community truly is, bringing together multiple generations to celebrate, connect, and create lasting memories. πŸ’›πŸ§‘

Meskwaki freshman Bree Scabbyrobe has made school history becoming just the second runner ever from Meskwaki Settlement School to qualify for the Iowa High School State Cross Country Championships.

Bree earned her spot at last week’s Class 1A District 7 meet in Jewell with a time of 20:59.4, finishing 10th overall and securing the final qualifying position.

Bree’s journey from middle school standout to state qualifier has inspired her teammates, coaches and the entire community. She now follows in the footsteps of Shye Johnson, Meskwaki’s first-ever state qualifier in 2020, continuing a proud and growing legacy for Meskwaki runners.

The state meet will be Saturday, November 1, at Lakeside Municipal Golf Course in Fort Dodge.

Join us in congratulating Bree and wishing her the best as she represents the Meskwaki Warriors at State!
